400f sleeves and bore

I researched all the info on boring my 77 cb400 from its stock displacement to a 466 and now I have the piston kit, new gaskets etc. I took the cylinders to my machinest and he told me that there wasn't enough sleeve left to bore out to the new displacement. I thought the stock sleeves were enough? Do I need a second look from another machine shop?

Please help me out, I'm having a hell of a time getting info on this!

Never mind you silent bastards. So much for forum help. Go ahead long timers, write your shitty puns below!

Sorry this was missed.

There is definitely enough material in the stock sleeves to bore out for the 466 kit. Not sure what is going on with your cyls and your machinist.

i did. i called LA Sleeve and talked to those guys. Sent them out yesterday to have the pistons set to the cylinders. Pretty excited=) i will post pictures and whatnot when i get my new smart phone.

I guess my town is to small for cool projects like this. hmm.

With that name are they just boring the block or sleeving it? Price?

I am assuming they are only boring the author's cylinders, but yes, they do it all. If you have a 2 stroke, they will even modify the porting per request or match existing on new sleeves.

they charge $65 per hole - less the 1mm bore, and $75 a hole - over 1 mm bore. they are the best. and were i live i trust no one with my cylinders. I get my stuff back on monday, so i will post when i get them. but i've had them do all my dirtbikes in the past and there are perfect. never a hold up. been sponsored by them for years for racing=)

ok here she is got the parts put her together. rode her today for 15 miles and now i face a problem. i didnt change the jetting from before and now its running fat as hell. ive put it back together all correct. i had assistance from a well seasoned wrench. but something must be wrong. the breathe hose from the top of the motor is aso emmiting a weird smell ive never smelled before?

i know the information im giving is not enough, so go ahead and ask away. ill be checking this post alot

Weird smell isn't much to go on. Would you care to elaborate?

How is it running and are you sure its rich? It should be- because the bigger bores pull in more air through teh same sized carb and that means gas velocity goes up and that means a bigger pressure drop through the venturi so it picks up more fuel.

alright, i was reading up more on this issue and i think the smelly white smoke is a tad bit normal. i cant really explain the smell other then its not of gas or oil. i checked my oil to see if there was any gas in it and not a drop, but im going to change it anywY

it runs good when high in rpms but down low she sputters and sounds like she is going to fowl out. got some nice backfire out of the muffler last night too. i am running bigger jets both main and pilot from prior rebuild. im going to put the stock jets back in later today

Unless your running stock airbox and exhaust the stock jetting will be lean.
Re-fit stock pilot jets as top end seems OK and probably needs to be leaned off at lower rpm
What is bore size on 466?
(I've only fitted 56mm pistons to 400f to make a 490)

Thanks, I forget stuff.
That bore sounds familiar for some reason?
I've found you need to raise float level by 1.5 to 2mm, drop needle 1 clip (usually move to second from top) then you can fit bigger main jets for top end.
I haven't done a 'big' 400f since about 1988

i have my needles one clip from the top. i added my electronic
ignition last night seems to run better. still got her running fat though. could it be a sync issue? i didnt really think syncing is that big of a deal

On an inline 4, sync will have a major effect below 4~5 ,000
What size mains are you running (100~105?)
