450, in a 1980 cm400E no spark

How about grounds? How many different grounds are there on this bike and whereabouts are they located?

Anything fused in the ignition circuit?

Nope. For better or for worse, your ignition system runs entirely off of the magneto in the alternator. If the black/white wire is grounded, then no spark.

Update, I now have spark. Hurrah!

The issue was the key missing on the crankshaft, meaning the flywheel was not aligned correctly. On top of that, wear marks showing the flywheel was not spinning at the same pace as the crankshaft.

Slow moving flywheel not allowing spark.

Everything is back together using parts from a spare cm400e, on to the next adventure!
