Thanks for all the great compliments peeps. Johnny5, I painted the headers with good ol flat black high heat BBQ paint. It's been a year now and this paint really holds up to the heat and elements.

Sorry to bug, but was the paint applied right over the chrome? or was the chrome stripped first?

Thanks,

This header system was never chromed. It was paint from new. If you want to paint over rusted or pitted metal, just have it sandblasted or pick up one of them cheap $30..00 sandblasters where you stick the siphon tube in the bag of sand. I have done this with other chrome parts and the results are good.

CRAP!!! that thing is awesome!!! i love your attention to detail! it is all the little things that make it awesome!

Ya know...I'm generally a little worn out of SOHC-4s but that is a really clean bike you've built!
I love the fact that it's subtle but with severa lreally standout features.....love the rearset plates...prolly gonna have to steal that idea for one of my bikes.....very cool!

how did you get the rims so clean? blast them? and with what?

I have a pair of XS650 rims that i'm going to use but need to clean them up.

Incredible. Just incredible. What are those little amber lenses on the ends of the grips? Are those bar-end turn signals of some kind? That would be sweet!

Hey thanks!....the lights are LED running lights. I got them from a truck & trailer place.

Do you have any pics of the seat cover construction or did you send it to a shop?

Thanks

Oldog,

Very nice project. Where did you get the aluminum piece (heat guard?) mounted on the exhaust can? I'm slowly working on a 72' project.

Lou

The heat guard was made out of stainless steel. It's a piece cut out of a custom automotive grille.

Fastened heat guard on with stainless rivets. A couple of washers behind hold it away from the pipe.

Wow! Have I missed a lot, I'm glad you are still working on this project. This is my first time back on in over two years. It happens to all of us at some point- Kids/job/live.
I'm glad I jumped on to see this work in progress. I am going out to the garage tonight and pull the sheet off the 78 750k and start working on it again. Thanks for the inspiration.

ConGats on a great build OLDOG
Cheers

The site looks great
