thanks for the kind words. i agree 100% on the headlight/gauge set up. the stock set up that way is only temp. until the new chrome bucket and mini gauges come. (still backordered) trust me, it bothers the hell out of me every time i look at it.
Looking really good. Keep up the good work! How did you go about making your seat pad, I really like the ribbed look and am trying to figure out a way to do mine.
dig the project too. alot of the same points im trying to hit with mine. have the same grips coming in as well. waiting for my NOS tank and new cafe seat. Waiting is the WORST!
i may add a disc in the future, but i wanted late model internal forks for the readily available seals, as well as being able to dial in the height of the front end.
so friday night i was going out to a buddies house and hopped on the highway. i was doing a solid 70 for maybe 20 minutes or so and felt the bike hic-up and lose a bit of power, so i pulled over to let it cool down, as i figured it was just getting hot. smoked a cig, got back on the bike and did about 55-60 smoothly for another 8-10 minutes or so till i got to my buddys house. went to leave a few hours later and started the bike to hear some weird ticking sound that ive never heard this bike make before. heres a video via my phone. not the best, but you can hear it best in the beginning of the video. could the valve have fallen out of adjustment from the constant higher speed cruising? need a valve adjustment now? cam chain need tightening? i need some help, it sure doesnt sound good... :-\
ill check the headers, but i doubt it is that. it def. sounds like a metal slapping or constant "ting" sound. im going to look into it more today when i get to the shop.
checked the oil level today and it was really low so i added oil and am now scared that i ran it some what dry and fucked something up. waiting for the bike to be completely cold to check and adjust the tappets. man, i hope i didnt fuck this one up too. haha
didnt get a chance to pop the tappet covers off today to take a look but i did take another video that makes the ticking sound more prominent. does this help anymore? the sound is def. coming from the upper most part of the motor.
got a few things done since last post. my headlight and speedo showed up from DCC. (still no tach tho. ) made 2 different "dash" panels for the gauges, ignition and neutral light. the panel will bolt to the forward ends of the top triple tree clamp.
70's metal flake and lace just for fun.
and another that i polished up yesterday.
hammered some knee dents tonight. since my tank is pretty beat (dented, gouged, chipped and scratched) i decided to keep it "rough and ratty" and not smooth the dents, but just spray some floral lace patter over them. photos are terrible, but you get the idea.
so i went to install my mini gauges and relocate my ignition switch to the little dash panel i made. i extended the 4 wires from the ignition switch about 5 inches. (wires are: brown w/ white stripe, brown, black, red) all my lights, horn, neutral light, gauge lights and electric starter work but i have no spark now. i took the plugs out (both left and right, one at a time) and held them to the fins and got no spark out of either side. i have no spark what so ever. does the actual entire ignition switch assembly it self have to be grounded or no? i checked every connection and even re-did the 5 wires i extended again just to make sure it wasnt a bad connection and nothing changed. this is killing me. anyone might have an idea of whats goin on? here a few photos of the wires extended as well as the new resting place for the ignition switch.
