71 CL350 - First Shakedown Run

I have been working all summer trying to get my $20 garage find ready to roll. Finally got to that point yesterday and started right up. I get her rolling through first and into second although i did shift into 2nd at about 3-4k rpm so when i actually get to the Co. HWY I attempt to open it up a little i get going like nothing up to 4k rpm and then no more power - all the way to WOT. Can get going more than 35 mph. So i pull over and put it in nuetral try to ease it up over that 4k mark but nothing until the fifth time i rev it up it all the sudden goes. I take it back on the highway and open it up a little and it really goes but there still seems to be a slight hesitation between 4-5500 rpm but it has a lot of power beyond that and its smooth from 100-4000, then hesitates, then smooth beyond 5500 rpm. On the last part of my run I did think i felt some slight surging while holding the throttle steady. My father-in-law thinks maybe one of the cylinders in't firing correctly, so maybe the timing isn't quite right? I just did a second full carb clean so I feel that is probably an unlikely issue, but maybe some other carb settings need to be adjusted? One other thing I noticed, the throttle is really hard and my had was noticeably tired after the ride. which was about 15-20 min.

This is my first bike, first time bringing one back from the dead so any advice would be appreciated!!!

Things I have done so far:
new coils, wires, caps, plugs, points, condensor
carb rebuild kits, cleaned twice
new exhaust gaskets, collars, flange
new oil

It sounds like you were only firing on one cylinder in the beginning. Definitely check your timing and adjust your valves. Sounds like she's starting to come alive though.
