71 CL 350 Cafe
Just picked up my first bike yesterday! its a 71' CL 350, I have been searching for a year and finally ended up finding this in a friend's dad's garage and he sold it to me for $20! So now the fun finally begins as I transform it into a very minimalist cafe bike while preserving as much of the classic pieces of the bike as is possible. Only had a little bit of time to work on it last night but I did buff the pipes and damn they are shiny now. I will post up the pictures tomorrow when I take some more.

These pics are just after I got it in the garage yesterday.

Anyone familiar with taking off the shrouds on CL mufflers - are the screws a half-turn and off or are the screws just locked up with rust?? I can't get them off. :(

They just screw off, most likely rusted on there. The screws mount onto threaded brackets which are welded directly onto the exhaust pipes. Lube and a breaker bar should do the trick.

!!!! $20 bucks!!!???? WOW! You pretty much stole that! Sweet deal!

Soak those heat shield screws with PB Blaster. Don't F-em up... Be patient and you won't strip em...

$20 bucks is a hell of a deal for a pretty solid looking bike. You could sell the exhaust for a few hundred I bet! But it's so sweet i'd use it!

oh for sure - the pipes had a few rust spots on it but i had some really fine steel wool and basically all of it disappeared. they look so nice there is no reason to change em out.
As far as the screws go - after one slip i set the screwdriver down, i'll have to pick up some penetrate tomorrow along with some ZAP for the tank.

Got an impact driver? If not, get one. It should break those screw loose in a hurry.

Great deal BTW.

If you do end up parting them out I am in need of several parts - but particularly an exhaust flange with the shrouds and bolts.

Looking online for an impact driver and I am getting a lot of impact wrenches rather than impact driver....they are different tools, correct? If so, can someone lead me to a decent too.? Thanks in advance.
