Any closer to paint?

Yes I am. Currently it is on the workbench waiting for primer and paint. I sanded the last bit of filler down, checked fitment, and modified the seat here and there. I planned on priming today, but got busy and ran out of time. As soon as I get a nice day (which is every day here) with enough time to setup and paint, I'll get started.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Wiring & Linkage Done!

Still slow going as of late. I took apart the clutch side and checked things out. It seems I had the rotation on the worm gear starting to far up and the clutch rod was pushing the clutch out too far. Anyway, I believe it's alright, but I won't know until I get the clutch cable shortened (motion pro), and the chain broken and re-linked to fit.

I was planning on getting the first coats of primer on today but as it turns out while I was doing a final inspection I noticed a soft spot with a little hole on the tail hump of the seat. So I laid another piece of glass on the underside and had to let that cure out. I did finally get the seat-pan made so I can cut that out to fit soon and then get some foam and covering.

Does anyone have good and cheap references for seat foam and material? Paint and exhaust work next, and sometime I will finish the electrical.

Thanks for looking!

Nice. Well that would take care of the padding, but I do want to wrap it in something. Make a nice seat for the wife.

I was a little out of it when I read your post last night (It was nearly 2am; I couldn't sleep). I completely missed that you you were also looking for upholstery too.
I'd hit up an auto upholstery shop and see if they have some leftover vinyl. It should cost you less than $15 and you'll get to see and feel the material.
Sometimes you can get decent vinyl from a local fabric shop, but most of the time it won't be as durable as something made for upholstery use.
If you want leather, look on eBay. Most leather supplies only sell whole hides, but on eBay you can buy scraps.
If you're interested, I have a nice piece of walnut brown calfskin from Italy that I'm not going to use that I'll sell for $20 shipped.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll go with vinyl. Besides brown isn't going to work with this bike.

I'm going to see what options I have locally.

No worries, just figured I'd throw it out there.
I was going to go with brown grips and seat but then it became a trend and didn't want to go in that direction anymore.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Wiring & Linkage Done!

I got marine vinyl from joanne fabrics that I used for my boat. It has held up well over 2 years. I would definitely check local upholstery places. I used straight foam, wish I had thought about neoprene. The foam I got for my boat compresses too much, and isn't firm enough. I had a hard time finding firm foam. I think the neoprene with some foam would work well.

Upholstery shops are pretty slow in the winter. You may be able to get a deal on having them do it for you.

I FINALLY got started painting. Acid etch primer is on now. Tomorrow comes the high build.

Kind of an old post but looking at your new connectors i think you crimped them wrong. There are two crimp points on the connector, one crimps to the copper wires you have stripped, the other holds the wire in place crimping on the insulation. Look at the orange one at the top by your finger. It has both crimped on the insulation. They should look more like the grey wire in the bottom right of the picture.

Did those fork gaitors come from DCC?

If so, which ones did you get? I need to order some. I'm gathering parts at this point, and want to get everything I need to get my project into a roller. I'd rather only put the fork tubes back in the steering head once.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Wiring & Linkage Done!

Sorry its been so long since an update. I got busy with work and had to put a hold on things. I am moving in a couple months and won't get around to finishing the bike until this coming spring.

Vintage Style Fork Gaiters aka: Rubber Boots are from DCC, SKU: 45-39664. I went the same route, didn't put the forks in until completely assembled.

Happy new year!

Thanks for the part number.

I know how work and life gets in the way of motorcycle projects.

Extra funds have put a hold on mine.

However, all I got for Christmas was motorcycle parts, so I should be able to have a rolling frame soon.

Zero,

What size sprockets did you go with?

My research turns up that I need a 38 rear and 16 front.

Re: 71 Indignant CB175 - Wiring & Linkage Done!

which I cannot find anywhere on the internet.

Seems I may have to call sprocket specialists tomorrow

I went non-standard 17-36. PBI Front, JT Rear.
