73 CL350 engine part..

What is this penis thing sticking out? This is my first 350, I am familiar with the 360's and never ran into this part. My Clymers doesn't show what it is (its the 250-360cc version).
My question is. Can I take it off for polishing or will it foul something up? I almost want to say it is for the cam chain tensioner?

lol yeah that is the cam chain tensioner. I am not sure about taking it off though.

350 has an automatic one you just loosen it and then tighten the lower nut.

Yes but it can only be done at a certain crank position.

just tighten it up and then take it off it wond damage anything. You just set it tight before you put it back on then loosen it ( at proper crank position) and let it spring back into place and then tighten it back up. That said polishing it seems a bit excessive.

Hand polish it on the bike with some 0000 steel wool and some rubbing compound, then clean it up with a fresh piece of 0000 steel wool that has no compound.
