I went with a lash up like your first drawing on my 360. It works really well.

I love the bug. We raced a '63 on a '61 pan with a 2275cc motor and a bus tranny, plus we had a stock '63 that we called our parts getter. It had over 400,000 miles on it. We also had a '65 baja that was a killer mud bogger. I miss those days. The wife wants a bug, so hopefully we'll get back into them.

It's a great little ride. We haven't driven it much since we finished it, last winter and now there's a bushing gone on the shift linkage. Those baja's are awesome.

Do you have a pic of what's going on at the drum by any chance?

Got the spline moved as far counter clockwise as I can, I want to get the cable angle as close to 90 degrees as possible. Would be perfect if I could rotate it a few more. I could file flat another key way in the lever to get a better angle.

I think this mockup will work, will be using a front brake cable cut to length, not this beat up clutch cable, just for reference.

I cut the cable sleeve too short on this, so the curve on pedal side will not be as severe.

Is it possible to solder the original cast nipple back onto a cable, once trimmed? I have seen kits with brass nipples but haven't been able to find a source for single parts.

Waiting for a few last parts to come in. Fitted the front end, handlebar and throttle setup to make sure everything works. Too many hours on the seat last week, maybe I'll get back to it tomorrow. A buddy just acquired an old Singer sewing machine, so we'll be looking to make a butt pad later this week.

Here's how she's sitting currently:

Picked up these cheap-o headlight mounts. Can't stand the look of 'em. They're solid enough. A small fairing is in the plan, but that will come after she's road ready.

Have to touch up the rims, going to have them balanced first. Next time I'll spend the extra dough on powder coat :p

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Been reading up on jetting. This bike didn't have the stock airboxes with it, had some cheapo pods full of dirt when I got it. I'm assuming that the PO didn't jet when he pulled the airboxes off, since him and his "mechanic" couldn't figure out how to hook up the R/R ::) Probably pick up some UNIs to pop on.

Since my foresight was pretty bad in this project, being a motorcycle building FNG as it were, I mounted the rearsets right in the way of the stock exhaust. I was going to use the stock headers and throw some mufflers on, but I wanted to do custom headers to clean up the bike - guess I got my wish after all. So naturally there will be some uppage on the jets.

Picked up some pre-bent steel sections. Once I get the motor tossed in I'll be mocking up a few ideas. Will be going 2-into-1, headers into a 5" 2-1 collector (www.coneeng.com) hoping to exit under the RH foot peg. I know these engines don't typically "like" the 2-1 exhaust, but I'm going to try it out. Nothing's permanent ;D ;D

Speaking of carbs, wishing I didn't sell my first bike, '83 GS450. Had a nice set of Mikuni's on it

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Waiting on a bunch of rod ends from McMaster-Carr. Goal is to have everything welded on the frame and mocked up this weekend, paint next week and then reassemble and tune.

Buddy give me this at work today

Pretty rad. Although I'm far from a motorcycle mechanic . And it's made in USA to boot, what are the chances

Looking into jets, these guys set up jet sizes based on intake and exhaust. Is this a good choice or am I better off just getting some from jetsrus.com, finding a good starting point on the forum somewhere, and then chopping/trial and error to tune?

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Stock carbs for now. No engine mods other than oil mod on the transfer piece which shouldn't effect anything.

Will be running UNI pods most likely and 2 to 1 exhaust, which im going to keep as long as possible (when I build it).

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

I'd stick with stock and see how you do.

I have extensive modifications on my 360 and only needed to go up to 118 on the secondary mains.

Thanks for the advice. I'll see how it goes and rejet if necessary.

Hah, I was already contemplating that. I saw a photo of your bike, not sure how recent, with a 2 to 1 setup. At least I think it was yours from the 360 thread

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

If link was from sig, it's one of mine. Brendon's is the bare metal one with black wheels. Both have 2:1 exhausts, kinda pisses me off his is quicker than mine as I built both engines ;D

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Yeah, the bare metal one is the one I'm thinking of. Figured if you were running it I could make it work.

Thinking about making it a 378 at some point in the future. Gotta get her together and ride the piss out of her while the weathers decent up here.

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Hit the welder hard this weekend. Got mounting tabs for exhaust, rear stop switch, cable stays for rear brake cable, rear fender mount and a bunch of other odds and ends worked out. Dropped the engine in and started to tack up exhaust system. I'll post some pics later.

Been shaping and reshaping the seat, Working on fitment. Been quite a pain in the ass, but it's starting to fit nice and it's real solid. Hoping to have it buttoned up by the end of the week.

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

More work on exhaust after a long day at work + boston traffic. Got the first few sections tacked up, excuse the botch job on the left cylinder pipe. I wouldn't worry about that little guy.
