74 CB360T Rookie Build

Didn't mean to go on a tangent on your thread, really excited to see what you do with the bike. Built one of these back in the day too so I might be able to answer a few questions if you have any. Don't pay attention to what anyone says about keeping it stock either, there are millions of these bikes but this one is yours, go nuts!

Yeah haha no problem. This thing is super smooth. Ill put some more miles on her tomorrow but after 30 miles i rode today i was very impressed . Its my first olser than a 03 that ive ridden besides a 73 bmw 75/5 i rode 5 miles haha. So i was expecting it to be completely different. I love how comfortable, smooth and solid this thing feels. The guy(s) who restored it did an amazing job. There were a few things that need mending but theyre minor issues. Nothing to do with how she rides.
Looking forward to your build as well!

I can walk you through mounting that seat for the most part, trav. Not hard at all.

Finn, Benji's parts look spectacular, most of the complaints I have seen, have been about fitment, and mounting.

Thats freakin AWESOME!

Wow another 15 miles and she just gets better. I have however noticed a few things since picking up on Friday...

I'm in the midst of a similar project, and a rookie (with the help of my husband). 75 cb360. Brat style. Just started on my seat mod today. I'm with you. It's a dime a dozen stock bike, and inexpensive. I picked mine up for $500, runs great, some worn parts but mostly stuff I'd planned on swapping out anyway. Perfect for a project without having to sink a ton of cash into it. Best of luck to ya!

a few things like what?
Neutral light stays on, headlight pretty dim(i have an idea), no high beam, need hagons. Got her up around 65 - 70 today and the front felt solid while the rear felt more like a Cadillac floating around. Didnt feel dangerous or anything just needs improvement.

Neutral light stays on,

Be careful w that one. If the switch is stuck, You think shes in neutral and ready to start. However, It may be able to turn the engine over while in gear. Causing the bike to launch forward, unexpectedly.

Re: 74 CB360T Rookie Build

Ok first problem... i got home from a jaunt to the store and back. About 15min later i get back on to head to the bank and i have no power. When i turn the key the neutral light doesn't come on. No lights work... nothin. My rear brake spring(pictured) has been sticking slightly so its possible my brake light was left on while i was in the house. I personally put the acid pack in this brand new battery and installed it Friday when i picked it up. Ive checked all connections i can get to and nothing seems to have changed. Shes been running perfectly until this. Any help is appreciated thanks!!!

Are you saying the charge on the battery is dead or did you check that? A loose wire to your ignition, for example, will cause the bike to go dead.

Re: 74 CB360T Rookie Build

Thanks deviant .The battery charge is fine. The bike is dead. No lights, ignition, nothing. Ive checked as many wires and connections as i can get to without taking the tank off. Taking headlight off now to check those.

Re: 74 CB360T Rookie Build

Got it! Fuses looked perfect but standing on the right side looking at the box, the 3rd fuse(far right) looked fine but i swapped it with a spare and it came back to life! Rookie mistake sorry guys
(i dont wanna hear it trek haha)

The bike is powered by the red wire, it starts atop the starter solenoid (starter relay the heavy battery cable runs to.) That red wire runs through a connection plug w two wires in it, one red the other red/white. Make sure that hasnt come un-done then on to the main fuse 15amp. (check fuse.) From there another 4 wire plug (check it) then on to ignition key switch, from the ignition key switch it splits off and feeds the different circuits on the bike. Lights, ignition coils, etc

So if nothing works..horn, starter, etc. The main fuse may be blown, (do to a short circuit, broken or melted insulation) or that red wire may be unplugged, broken, or come unplugged off ignition key switch. If you have a meter use it, if you find no power at the red end of ignition key switch. Work your way back to battery, checking that wire at the plugs and any other connections.

If you have power to the red wire at the key switch, check the other key switch wires to make sure the key switch isnt bad. Then work your way forward along each wire.

The schematic is on pg 120 of the official honda workshop manual I gave you. There are several. Be sure to use U.S.A model.

Ok the red wire may be shorted somwhere...fuses dont pop for no reason.
could be just a loose connection caused it to heat up.

Heres what I did, I suggest you do it to.

this weekend go through every single connection on that whole bike. (yes, there is a million of those s.o.b.'s )

unplug, clean, dielectric grease and snap back together checking for tight connection...every one.

I am really bad color blind also. My 9 year old nephew sat with me in the garage. when I first got the bike. we checked every connection w schematic. found and fixed wires, to the points that had been crossed by the previous owner. after that the bike started. Im sure the P.O. gave up and thats why he parked the bike 25 years ago. mad.

You've taught me well thus far. I went to the manual and checked it out once i thought i found a wire not connected to anything in the head light. It was connected but that led me to the fuses. This fuse looks fine and has continuity so im still at a loss. So ive got some digging to do.
