'75 cb200t cafe build

THanks for the background info, always nice to hear where folks come from. I should do the same on my thread but I'm too hung over to think about that right now.

The dust boot will "tap off with punches or a screw driver. There are a couple of small holes punched in the metal that you can use for a grip.

Thanks for the tip. Got 'em off and starting sanding on them.

Headin' out in 15min to the Black Hills, kinda strange, everything loaded and no bike in the back. Gonna a be a great week with family. House sitter in place, cat fed, time to roll. Back Fri nite.

Be sure to take some pics! My brother was born in the area, it's gorgeous out there.

Made it back from the Hills at midnight last night. What a great time. Poking through an antique shop, I snagged this Paughco '60s frisco mount tank NOS, and a '37 Indian 4cyl seat pan. Even though I couldn't take a bike, ( would have loved to have my featherbed with me), I was still smiling on the way back thinking of the score.

Progress being made at last. Vacation took up last week and today I ended up doing two wheel jobs. Had to put 8 spokes in a yamaha dual sport wheel and tension and true, the second one was a front '10 KX motocrosser that the kid broke 10 spokes and wiped the rim out. It got a new Excel rim and spoke kit. That Excel stuff IS high quality. SO finally back to the cb200. I finished polishing the lowers on the wheel and installed new fork seals. I filled them with oil and stuck 'em back in the triple tree. Now this is the sucky part. I have to use the stock headlight brackets with drag bars for the time being. I need to bolt a quarter fairing to it. AHHH! But there is a reason and when done, will build clip ons. I am going to race it next June in the "Lake Erie Loop". This starts in Ohio, goes to Detroit, across Ontario to Buffalo, through NY and PA, and back to the start line. Its 650 miles and record for this class is 10hrs 17min!!!! The catch is the bikes have to be 30 yrs old or older and 225cc or less. Its gonna be fun. Pictures of progress to follow...

Alright, I think we need to start something here! How many dtt'ers van we get in this thing!?!?!? I'm in!

I'll start a thread in the club!

Average speed ~63MPH. That race sounds like a blast! I may have to make this a goal for next summer.

Oh, how do you get those damn fork seal holders off.

I'm battling with these little guys right now as well on my CB200. I still haven't gotten anywhere. Do they just press on or are they keyed in anyway? I think I need to get a little more aggressive with them but I don't wannt marr up the chrome too bad.

I put an innertube and then put a big hose clamp around that. I was able to rotate it a bit and then took the clamp off and used a screw driver like everyone's talking about. Hope this helps

Yeah, you just have to tap them off. I used a punch inserted in the little punched holes and rapped it out. minor damage, but I was able to flatten tat out after replacing them. Then I decided not to use them at all. ::)

i got the forks polished out and seals in and back on for the moment. I spent today laying out the holes for the front hub, got them drilled and hub sanded to 1000 grit. Ready for polish. Man I love those 3 & 4 fluted drill bits for drilling big holes without chatter

Its been a good last day and a half. I sanded out the hub and polished it after drilling out the holes. Last night I started polishing the stock crusty spokes. The cadmium plating was actually pretty good on them so decided to clean them up and use them. Finished the spokes this morning then balanced the hub. Not absolutey perfect, but pretty damn close. Once that was done I went to my friend's gasket mfg plant and got some stainless screen for the hub holes. He's a really cool guy who builds motorcoaches out of over-the-road buses and likes '49 ford pick ups. He makes all kinds of engine gaskets (like for Mr. Gasket and the like). I owe him breakfast at the cafe tomorrow. I cut the stainless out for the holes and then laced the wheel. Tonight, I want to tension and true the wheel and think about JB welding the screen on the inside of the hub. If not, tomorrow.

I've been on vacation since the 28th of June, go back to work tomorrow. Just tryin' to make it count! Thats sweet you're just about done. Let me know what your final jetting is if you will. I was gonna use the cb200 remix as a base line too.

I think its a good baseline. Looks like we're all running the same intake so a lot is going to depend on the exhaust set up you end up with.

yeah, thats for sure. I'm planning on building a 2 into 1 from scatch but we'll see how that pans out later

Back to work (12hr days), not much progress. I JB welded one of the six stainless screens in the front hub tonight and put new brake pads on my Speedmaster. I'll get another screen in place tomorrow after work.

A Roller!! Hey, things are coming together now. I finished drilling holes and sanding/polishing the front brake plate this morning and got the front tire mounted. Next, I shortened the rear brake rod and got the back brake functional. Couldn't stand it, had to pull it off the lift and sit on it. I didn't make any engine noises though, not this time at least. I need to make new brake plate straps out of aluminum yet and put the engine back in to start thinking about the exhaust system. The seating position is totally do-able, that makes me happy. Well back at it.
