'75 CB550K1 Gulf - Round...3, the fun stuff

Re: '75 CB550K1 Gulf - paint and...basically done

yeah, that...and a triumphant blast down mainstreet Bozeman!

Re: '75 CB550K1 Gulf - paint and...basically done

I gotta say, the hugger is my favorite new addition. The whole thing looks awsome...youve got an "eye" as they say. But that hugger is so subtle and fits so tight.....that I love.

I picked the seat up from the upholsterer's today. I asked him to model it on the Ducati Diesel's seat, with "carbon" marine-grade vinyl. He did a great job, I think.

Meh. Another showing of your mediocre motorcycle. Ha.

Seriously balling , sir. Fantastic.

Awesome work.

What's the plan for next winter?

Well, I think I've had my fill of composites for a while. It's been fun, but...yeah.
After running velocity stacks for two seasons, it'll be the perfect excuse for an engine rebuild. Ideally, I'd like to go with a set of Dynoman high comp pistons, 592cc, the "hot street" kit:

With a cam to suit, and porting by Mike Reick if he can fit me in. And of course, what performance build would be complete without Keihin CR carbs. ::)

So, that, or buy a new bike. Likely the engine work though...

I couldn't agree more, that's why the Yoshi 498cc 400f I'm building is getting.....

Seriously dude, stellar bike.

Re: '75 CB550K1 Gulf - done for real. Maybe.

The seat (along with every other part of the bike) looks looks great. Definitely IMHO one of the best builds I have ever seen.

Yeah found the pistons in Japan. Now I'm just saving for the Carillo rods to mate them to. They use a different sized gudgeon pin. It's only money, right?

Yup, that looks just about done. And now youre at that point where theres this itch, and you gotta scratch it, you know its there, waiting....your next build. Thankfully Im not there yet.

Re: '75 CB550K1 Gulf - done for real. Maybe.

As beautiful as ever...just even more one-off, if that was possible. Well done!

What does it weigh?

365lbs sopping wet (+/- 5 to be fair to the scale). 195 rear/170 front, which is opposite of what I'd expect with the added rotor. I am however happy that it is basically unchanged from the weight of the last version, even with the second rotor & caliper. Tells me that replacing the stock front fender with carbon, plus the lightening Lee did on the aluminum bits did it's magic. I would imagine the Race Tech springs played a minor role as well; they're much shorter and narrower than stock.

Edit: the stock wet weight of the bike is 420lbs. Last spring I assumed that was a dry weight, so my claim of 80lbs lost was incorrect. 55lbs shed still makes me pleased though.
