Wow, that is awesome, love it. This bike is up there with one of the best on this site, and liekly most others. I would put it at a pro-built level guys, you are doing top notch work.
Through my bleary eyes I just checked this out...and I know why you didn't clear it. You couldn't tear your eyes off it long enough to! ;D
Glad to hear the coloring worked out, too. Now take a deep breath, and CAREFULLY lay that clear! ;D ;D
Oh, BTW, the stencils were adhsesive backed, but the adhesive was almost a little too strong for airbrush work. We had to use a little longer curing times than for frisket masks, but it worked out fine. Accurately cut, too. Most of our troubles came from the shape of the tank vs. the flat mask, and trying to fit the white border of the Gulf logo with a thin blue border. We made the changes Chris outlined above, and the results, well...
Wow do I feel like I just crawled from under a rock. To call some of the builds on this site spectacular would be an understatement. Yours is at the top for sure. I have a bunch of catching up to do because I just found this thanks to Maritime. Beyond beautiful work brother. Love it. Now if you'll excuse me I have a bunch of reading to do
Thanks for the kind words fellas. Diesel, thanks for putting me in my place! Hahaha.
The rims are at JRK's shop getting gloss black powder. Hubs were bead blasted and fresh spokes are en route.
As for the seat, I'm just slapping some high-density foam on there. The bike's got a sort of stripped down utilitarian look (no turn signals, no bar switches-just toggle switches under the gauges, etc.), and I think a nice cushy vinyl or leather covered seat would look out of place.
I object to your seat choice. I think the bike is far beyond "stripped down utilitarian" look. I'd re-think it if I were you. This thing deserves a sweet leather seat IMHO.... but what do i know?
I say an ultra suede seat, its not as shinny as suede and will hold up to more things than suede.
Plus I think it just looks cool. If Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari, Sparco and other high end companies use it for their seats and steering wheels, you could use it for your seat.
Well, maybe down the road. But in the two and a half weeks I have to finish this build, it ain't gonna happen.
When I said "stripped down, utilitarian" I meant a lot of inspiration was taken from past and present race bikes. (inspiration being the key word, not exact ideas, haha) The whole subframe and tail area was influenced by modern GP bikes. Comfort definitely isn't something that comes to mind there. It's not a touring bike, it's a blast up the canyon bike. That's about it.
Are you shitting me? That is friggen' ridiculous. I love it! Can't wait to see what this thing looks like as a roller. So, what are you doing with the wheels? ??? Something that looks technical-racer-ish I hope.
Damn, this thing is gonna be bike-of-the-month shit when its all done.
