Re: '75 CB550 - Gulf - well, that's it
Thanks teazer. That means a lot considering your pretty extensive background!
...
So fellas, I put about 85 miles on her today. First off, I didn't get one wave returned from the Harley guys! On the 400 I got every other one or so, but I'm thinking it's mostly because of the paint on this one. Haha...
Anyways, what a kick! This thing wails like a bitchy tramp! (however they wail ??? ) I don't know what effect the stacks and exhaust truly had on it (didn't hardly ride it after I bought it), but it revs like a mofo and just screams! I about wet myself every time I blip the throttle...sounds like a race bike. I had to pull over and put in ear plugs minutes into the ride. And the handling! It's just so agile. I figured the changes I made might improve a 35 year old bike a little, but it's night and day. It feels ridiculously light. The only thing is, while adding a few teeth to the rear sprocket makes it MOVE, I think it will top out at around 95-100. I was doing 7K RPM at 70MPH. That's not to say it wouldn't do more, but I don't want to push a stock motor past 9-10K.
Topped the night off by joining Tyler and Melinda (t71 and Mrs t71) in crashing a Harley bike night. The metric bikes drew quite a bit of attention considering. Good stuff.
Just wanted you guys to know this thing turned out better than I imagined. Had several people pull up and want to know all about it...I'm thinking it's going to be a long summer in that regard.
