If youre going with the 2 piece fairing, pick up some body work from a Kawasaki EX500 (NINJA). The EX is pretty close is size to the 550, and a complete body can usually be had for under $100. Now, Im not saying that you should just bolt that horrid 80s plastic to this beautiful machine, BUT it may be a simpler way to manufacture molds. Modify the EX junk to a shape you desire. Oh, and if you dont rock dual round headlights I may have to kill you.
OK, Signing up, was a little scared we were getting another BTC/Willow like deacon, glad you are just adding more awesomeness to her. I like the 2 piece idea to keep the motor exposed, it is to purdy to hide completely. Also vote for dual headlights. Cheers and I hope you can get r done over winter. It would suck to not put another 2900 or more miles on her next summer.
Hahahaha. I too love dual headlights, BUT, I'd rather not put any headlights on this bike. Just those pesky laws...
I'm kind of steering this build towards more of a race-inspired theme, so the plan is to hide a little projector somewhere behind the fairing.
But who knows, things change. I did a couple more photoshops last night. I really can't see a two-piece for this bike. Nothing I do looks good, so I'm still leaning towards a one piece, with more of the engine exposed.
Oh and Mike, you're a friggen genius sir. Modifying other pieces for a mold will be a hell of a lot easier than creating it out if thin air.
I really like the second one following the exhaust lines, but I think it needs the cutout for the engine cover like the first few. Just halpes to maintain the vintage look.
Sorry Chris, I'm on my phone and it's a real pita sometimes to link stuff. But do a quick image search for "gs500f" and look at the stock fairing. Then check out Seamax's GS500f:

Yeah! More motorcycle porn! I like the second drawing full faring. This has to be one of my favorite builds. Love the gulf theme.( built a 914 same colors.) Don't know about peeing, but that last car I built, the motto was " making babies cry and women faint" can't wait to see what come up with.
Agreed! love the one that follows the exhaust. Just a small detail try and make the front of the fairing follow the wheel arch a little closer. Just one of thoes subtle details that many may not notice but will really make a difference in the final look.
A few tweaks could make it even better.
Take the knee cutout body line on the tank, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise and use it for the inside line of the fairing.
(this could expose the points cover entirely)
The lower belly line that mirrors the angle of the tail piece is perfect.
I agree with the comment about matching the radius around the front wheel.
An epic build that just keeps getting better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good stuff gents, good stuff. The first two drawings, page 1, matched the tire perfectly. I tweaked these for another viewpoint. There seemed like too much space between the fairing and tire in the first two...
