Hi,

Tried everything but right cylinder is backfiring and the more gas you give it the more it breaks up. Everything is cleaned and adjusted, timing, carbs, valves? Pilot screw adjustment does nothing to help.

Greatly appreciate your help guys!

Did you use a strobe light?
Have you done a plug chop?

Adjusting the pilot screw??? So, its backfiring at idle speed of 1200 rpm?

Start a build thread w plenty of pics so I can see just WTF you have done to this poor thing!

Thanks for the reply.
I say this next part respectfully, Jesus is my Savior so I do appreciate you mentioning Him.

I've gotten some great advice from this site and I buy parts from the sponsors. I do appreciate your's and everyone's time very much. I don't have the experience yet to offer help but will soon hopefully as I bring this discarded bike I found in pieces all over someone's backyard. I always refer to the manual, then Google solutions, then physically try everything I can before I post. I will try to get some photos.

Respectfully, David Ricci

Well thank goodness you have a sense of humor. I respect that and I apologize if I have offended you.

OK, since Jesus has you covered. How bout we try to save your bike?

Exactly which manual? There is a correct answer. Hint: If you say Clymer, Im gonna yell at you.

Please, Tell me what mods you have made.
Do you have the stock air boxes on her or pods of some sort?

Did you use a strobe light?
Have you done a plug chop?

Thanks Man, now we're talkin'

No mods, , I haven't done the chop but plugs come out greasy black after a few minutes. I did the timing with a bulb, is the strobe that much better (just asking)? If it is, I'll go borrow one. I just adjusted valves again, they were real close to spec. Thinking of switching coils from side to side if the valve adjust doesn't work, then pull carbs (which have been cleaned, rebuilt, new diaphrams).

I appreciate your help. -D

Static timing is a pre-set default kinda thing. It is close enough to get the bike started...but really not ridable. You have to put the strobe on it to really get her dialed in. So, she runs top notch. you find it surprising how inaccurate even the best static time is.

Heres a post I just finished on another thread about adj valves...

Did you adjust the valves, (cold engine)? I just did my valves the other day. First time after last falls rebuild. you may be hearing them slap a little.
after setting valves. Intake .002, you really shouldnt be able to push the .002 feeler back in. I set em w the .002 then try, it wont go. BUT I can get the .0015 to slip in there...It can be a bitch but she will slip in.

on the exhaust, after setting with .003. It wont go back in. but w some effort I can get the .002 to slip in.

The engine must be rotated on proper t.d.c. exactly. I keep the wrench on the rotor bolt and use zip ties on the foot peg bracket to hold it there. TDC exactly.

When the nut is loosened, and the proper feeler in there. I roll the screw driver with my finger tips. Lightly, tightening. until the tappet bottoms on the gauge. Then I roll off a bit, until the feeler can slip around a bit. Then gently tighten again, back a forth. Looking at the screw slot, for consistency, Just until I am satisfied that I have it a .002 with out pinching the gauge or being too wide. Then while holding the screwdriver where I want it, and tighten the nut fully tight. Slip the guage out, feeling that it doesnt have too much pinching drag. and try to push it back in. If I cant get it started I try the next smaller size. The .0015. I can get it to slip in. I know I have em as close as I am going to get em.

Did you download the "official Honda workshop manual" I have on my blog?

Post a couple pics up here...its driving me crazy.

After you cleaned up the carbs did you synchronize them, properly? If not you "HAVE" to do this. If your carbs are not properly synced, your machine will never run right. this requires a pair of vacuum gauges and adapters from crazyPJ.

This could be the whole problem. Running difference between cylinders.

I happen to have the PDF for the 360 manual if you need one! Send me a PM *

I had the same problem with my old 360 and it was due to the timing being slightly off and my carbs not being completely synced
