Been Around the Block
Or T 500, whichever turns your crank. My 75 xs650 has an internal issue that is producing filings at an alarming rate and the gt550 isn't going to be ridable for a couple months so.... I bought 1 very original, very barn(fresh) t500. PO did all the work to make it road worthy, decided that the roads in 2013 are way different than the roads in 1975 and traded it in on a new atv. Bonus for me. Starting to go through it this weekend to see what it may or may not need. Luggage rack delete is first!!!!

Did some work on it last night, motorcycle gods have smiled on me... New slides in the carbs, points / stator aren't mucked with, everything on this bike is original, even the steering lock works!! ... Working on syncing the carbs, setting the timing, shorter stalk period correct turn signals.. Super bike bars and slightly rearsets are on their way!!!

I'd put that rear rack on the New Delhi Craig's leest. That thing looks sturdy!

Got my first ride in tonight, total of 1.6km.. Bike is running like a bag of shit.. The lights were dimming and fluctuating in brightness quite a bit so based on that I started with electrical issues. Well. 9 crimp connectors that I've found so far that are loose. Not a little bit loose, fall apart loose.. Battery is shot, has lost 1V in 2 hours of sitting on the bench and bad / corroded ground at the coils and broken insulation on batt positive... It's a mess... But the 3 seconds that it lit up and decided to run on both cylinders was sweet!!

All right. I love this bike. Cleaned the coil grounds and mount, tidied up the wiring with some new bullet connectors, cleaned the ground on the rectifier and she's good to go. Starts first kick, runs at a reasonable pace with no obscene amounts of smoke, very mellow and relaxed from 3 grand to 4500... Soon as it gets on the mains though its pulls as hard as my 650 to 6500 then it dies off a bit, up shift and repeat..... 20km tonight.. Few more shake down runs and I'll start to tune and time it and make it shiny... I think there is more power to find in it...

Found the power.. After my ride I pulled the plugs on the trans. Went to throw the oil out this morning and my drain pan had the shimmery sparkle of something inside isn't playing well with its neighbor. Same as my 650 which I've pushed into the corner til next year. Shit. Taught the dog a few new words and pulled the motor and split the cases. Stub on the input shaft had a needle bearing and bushing. They're scrap metal now.. Suzuki has the bearing and bushing, shaft is coming via shipping-charges-for-no-reason-bay... If I didn't have bad luck I'd have none... I'll get some pictures of the destruction tomorrow after I clean the shop... Looks like a feckin bomb went off in there :). At least it didn't shred the trans... Was probably a few hard gear changes from dropping the shaft...
