I managed 2 years on the big Island, loved loads about it but the whole dawn to dusk life style and constant sunshine got to me in the end. I like 4 seasons, shitty weather and life after mid night!

Exactly! I need my seasons!

Well as this weekend wraps up I got the cases split and studs pulled, not bad progress. I will pull all the innards out of the crankcase tomorrow and begin soaking them in either kerosene or diesel for a week along with the jugs and valve cover.

I did the bend and turn method on the studs with a rubber mallet. Only took about 30 minutes to knock them all out as they will be replaced with HD studs.

The engine is A LOT cleaner than I was expecting. Pistons look great and overall everything is very clean. Definitely went through a rebuild once before in its past life, I think it might even be an aftermarket camshaft as I was unable to remove the rockers without releasing the valves. I was unaware but now I know it will last me. Better safe than sorry!

I would like to vapor blast everything but can't really justify the costs considering shipping alone would be about $100...

Debating on what I want to do with the engine cosmetically. Vapor blast the whole thing for a great natural looking engine? Paint the jugs black? crankcase black?

Any input? The color scheme is going to be black frame, pearl white/light grey tank/seat, and brown accents.

Haven't had much time to work on the project with the holidays but I did knock out a little bit today.

More polishing:

Bought myself a soda blaster for christmas and blasted the engine cases, pistons, exhaust, and jugs today. Was hoping to paint them too but being 30 degrees out it was just too cold without an indoor studio.

Loaded it all back into the Abarth ready for paint.

Hopefully Ill paint within the following week and I can begin reassembly of the engine. The frame still needs to be modified and sent off to powder coating and I am waiting on my custom gas tank to be made so no hurry.

Happy New Year!

Jarob-

Nice work!
Polished old parts always, always look awesome.
Way better than new, in my opinion.
Every time I look at something like that, that I've done, it reminds me that I did it.

Keep it up!
