Re: 76 CB360, before & after

I thought about freezing it for a second...Ive used and have access to dry ice at work, -112 degrees f. But I didnt wanna drive in there to get it. or, wait til monday eve. Swapmeet L bailed me out. The spray is a great idea...never woulda thought of that either!!! Seems I have a little issue thinking outside the box, once I get flustered.
I will look into drilling the clutch thingy. And get pics...like it was my idea all along. lol thankyou.

Re: 76 CB360, stripped, before & after

Got up early this morning. Great time for outside work. The paint stripper worked better than I had hoped. Not concerned w head, its being replaced. If the top of the engine looked as good as the bottom I woulda just polished it. 20 years of grain dust was really hard on that aluminum. when I originally sanded and bead blasted it. I was hoping to get rid of some of that corrosion discoloration...nope, hence the red.

You did remember to drain oil before removing engine from frame?

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Vise-grips are my enemy I might add... I only use them during welding, temp hold things together until there tack'd, etc. Serious, 8" channel locks", good ones. Not an off brand. I keep them in my back pocket at all times while in the shop. Great for opening beer, picking things up that are hot, Breaking screws and small bolts loose (if they're stripped), and many other things... When I walk into the shop, they are the 1st thing in my hand and into my back pocket...

Ok OK OK Im sorry...I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I did not use my "channel locks" to remove the bolt. When I get to work in the morning Ill take another pic of the three pairs I also carry in my tool bag 1-426 and 2-420s. My personal fave...420s, as you can see in the pic of home set the 430s and 215s for filters are rusty.
If you really want me too, I can reinstall the bolt and use my channel locks to remove it.
I dont have a pair of 8 inch.
I also want to add its always fun to watch a new apprentice try to use them on a bolt backwards. then we yell at him for 5 minutes...then we make fun of him for the remainder of the week. "Hey look at me...I no get blue pliers to worky on rusty bolt"

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

anybody wanna loan me a valve spring compressor? I was able to get the 2 larger intakes out just fine. but the smaller ones are just too tight for Gregs compressor.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Looks very similar to the one I have. It should do the trick.

Re: 76 CB360, before & after

Valve spring compressor works OK
It will work fine for 360.
Give the compressor a tap when you have pressure on retainer, the collets wedge real tight

springs will complement the rears...should look great sitting in the garage...not running...LOL. The valve thing kinda knocked the wind outta my sails...briefly. Gonna get up early in the morn and keep on keeping on. Fresh start...tearing into it! Buddy Nick told me I should have no problem installing the new rings by hand...and I read of guys doing it on DTT. what do you think of that PJ?
