I just got the engine finished. Got stuck on the timing and got some help. put it all back together, turns over by hand great with no contact but she wont crank. after a few kicks she backfires but thats about it. I've got fire on both sides but still nothing.

When I redid the engine the cover to the points was broken. I replaced the points housing but kept the old points just used the wire already in the new housing. what am i missing? is it the points? how would i fix this? I got a guy trying too but hes having problems as well.

You have the advancer 180° out or you have the coils on the wrong side. Try switching the blue and yellow wires on the coils. Plug blue into yellow and yellow into blue.

are your plug wires on the right plugs? 1&3 share a coil, 2&4 share a coil. The coilwires have a number on a little band near the end.

This is the twin. Only two cylinders.

But on the four cylinder, the coils are 1&4 and 2&3, not 1&3, 2&4.

A 1&3 and 2&4 configuration would lead to a side-to-side rocking motion. The crank wouldn't be balanced.
