76 CB550F - 1 plug fouling - RESOLVED BY REPLACING THE FLOATS

****RESOLVED BY REPLACING THE FLOATS****

I cleaned the first 2 plugs before taking the picture but they looked like the last one.

Have K&N RC-0844 pod filters with a replica Yoshimura exhaust from MotoGP Werks. The carbs have been cleaned, have 115 main jets, the rest of the parts in the carb are stock and they have been vacuum synced. The petcock was taken apart and cleaned but not rebuilt. I've also done a compression test with these results - #1-119, #2-114, #3-110, #4-119.

From what I've been reading, the next thing I should do is to make sure the valves are adjusted properly and the timing is set correctly. I have a Clymer manual and will be following the instructions there but I'm just wondering if there are any tips, tricks or suggestions for this procedure as I've never done this before. Also, is there anything else I should be looking at?

Re: 76 CB550F - 1 plug fouling

The picture is so blurry that you can't see much. Doesn't look fouled to me. The center electrode looks clean, but it's hard to see.

Does your camera have a macro mode? Try that to get a clearer close-up. Otherwise, we can't see well enough to tell whether the problem is likely fouling from being rich, or oil fouling. But again, doesn't really look fouled to me.

Re: 76 CB550F - 1 plug fouling

Ya sorry, shaky hands. Not at home but I'll try and get a clear picture later.

The 3rd plug from the left was completely black. These were new plugs and started to have engine issues after filling the tank with premium gas and riding for about 15 minutes in the city (stop and go traffic).

It was a sooty black.

Unfortunately, I ended up cleaning the plugs so I don't have another picture.

Forgot to mention that I also have a Dyna S ignition installed.
