This is my first bike just picked it up about a week ago. Took a friend who knows bikes with me to buy it and it was in great shape minus their hack job wiring. The guy wanted $800 for it but thought that it had it had a problem with the stator because it had oil in it. My buddy knew the stator was supposed to be wet and I ended up offering the guy a dollar for every cc the bike had. So $360 for a bike with just under 5000 miles on it was a pretty good deal. Ive been waiting to get a day off of work so I can go get my endorsement so I have had some time to do some work on it. Not sure where the bike is heading exactly. I cant decide between a cafe or a brat so right now it is kinda going somewhere in between. Suggestions and opinions would be great.
Cool bike looks like you have the unicorn one of the guys here has been looking for. A CJ with CB pipes on it, what does the rear brake system look like? I will point him here directly if he doesn't get here before I can.
Suggestion is to get it running and get used to how it is before you start hacking it up. I have more or less stock CB360 that I did a few small things to it mostly just for esthetics and I love it. I'm looking for another one to cafe however. ;D
Frogman- It runs and drives great. The biggest thing it needs is a new front tire but a shop just down the road had one waiting for me i just havent gotten over there yet to get it put on. Has fresh oil will hopefully be getting around to cleaning the carbs by next week. Just redid my air filters last night and painted the tank and cowl. and did a mock up for my seat. Just the original pan cut down on the sides and shaved the foam. Sonny - ill get a picture of the brake assembly for you today
Cant decide something like a cafe or brat. I will probably put some flat bars or drag bars on soon. I dont feel like messing with my rear sets at this point. I got some leds and moved my brake light and blinkers into my seat cowl but i think that i may take them back out and put the brake light on the right side of the bike below a vertical license plate mount. My seat cowl actually just bolts to the frame and covers up the back half of the seat but has another postion that i can bolt it up to further back allowing room for my girlfriend. I think that I might be able to have a single seater cafe, a two seater and a brat bike all in one with flat bars, a seat cowl that can be moved and keeping my brake lights and blinkers mounted to the frame.
What do you guys think? Should I try and make this thing a shape shifter or just keep it simple with defined style?
Sweet! Thanks, man. That's almost exactly how mine is setup now (after a lot of angle grinder work). It's always nice to know that I did something semi-correctly after there's no way to undo what I did... lol...
One more question though... the return spring for the brake pedal... What keeping the spring from freely rotating? I see one end looped under the pedal, where is the other attached?
Yea I saw your build and was relieved to see that you didnt mess anything up by thinking that yours was supposed to set up like a cb. I dont know where it was attached originally. It was spinning freely when I first got the bike. I have the other side just resting on a little tab on the frame and it works fine. If you dont have anything you rest it on you could weld a little tab or if you cant weld then just a small hole drilled in the frame with bolt to rest the spring on should work
My bike had mismatched pipes when I got it. The owner before me lost one while riding and didnt bother to go back for it. So it had a cb pipe and a straight pipe off of a harley and it sounded like shit. You had two different sounds and I think having two different amounts of backpressure was causing it to backfire. I got a pair of shorty off of a friends cb350 and it fixed the backfiring problem and they sound a whole lot better! I dont think they look that bad either.
I also slimmed down my seat and added some comfort using two 1/2 thick pieces of yoga/exercise mat that I found at walmart for twenty bucks. Way more comfortable!
Got drunk off of cheap lager last night. Ended up buying some new stuff for my bike during the same week that might first months rent was due and payment for college classes was due. I bought some superbike bars, a rectifier from oregon motorcycle parts, bar end mirrors, and some header wrap. Hopefully this doesnt come bqck and hurt me when rent is due next month
