'76 XS360 Cafe build - Total Newb

Shamus- Yeah, the problem with these yams is that the rear frame is just too damn wide. Initially I was planning on a standard rear loop but when I did a mock-up seat out of some blue foam the considerable width throws the whole thing out of proportion. I thought the current solution was the next best thing to actually chopping the rear triangle and rebuilding it so the frame runs on the inside of the rear shock mounts (like the CB's). I'll be embedding the rear turn signals in the ends of the frame tubes which should help clean things up.

Oh I know the awkwardness of the xs360 ass end. I'm working on the same bike presently. I would maybe consider doing a couple short tube braces from the frame to the seat pan. It would add structural strength to it and tie it in nicely, and it would certainly have a unique look to it. You just have to be weary of looking too bolt on.

...with engine and front end.

Bit of a setback. Had to rebuild the front wheel. After I got the tire fitted I noticed that all the spokes were slightly bowed in the same direction. Ended up using a dremel to chamfer all the nipple holes on the back edge. Got that worked out and stripped the left (stator) side covers. I've decided I'm going to try and hide the fuseblock and voltage regulator in what used to be the starter compartment. Anyone else try this? Do you think it might get too hot?

Stripped the right side cover and painted the Yamaha backgrounds black. Cut some new gaskets and placed an order for more parts from Dime city.

Drilled the rotor and gave it a new coat of paint along with some spacers. Used satin black VHT chassis and roll bar epoxy paint. Went on real nice. My Dime City order arrives tomorrow!

I'm with Shamus on this one. The design is excellent. I love the look of the tank and the seat, but without modding the frame, it won't work. Don't compromise your vision and waste such a nice seat.

I made up a battery box. No CNC. That's all band saw, hand files, and sandpaper wrapped around a screwdriver shaft.

So I bought a house and now I've got a garage to work in. Lifehack: If you're going to build a motorcycle, make sure you don't live in an apartment.

I've been getting the electrical sorted out. I'm modifying the original harness which was in pretty good shape save for the bit that melted when the regulator fried. Picked up a sweet fuse box from cycleterminal.com. Fabed up an electrical tray from some aluminum sheet. Hope to get it running before summers over.
