So here's my introductory post. Hopefully within the next month I''l get onto starting an actual build thread. But for the time being I figure I might as well introduce myself here...

My names Jakub, I'm from florida, and this is my bike.

... And thats my dog.

I just bought a 77 CJ360t after not being on two wheels for over a year. I sold my last bike to make rent payments, but now stumbled upon a great deal on this one and couldn't pass it up. I intend to do a bunch of the usual to her; (bars, paint, signals, blah blah blah...) but have yet to start anything other then removing that god-awful luggage rack on the back.

Hopefully, with any luck, it will end up looking somewhat like this... a rough drawing of course:

I've been silently stalking admiring most of the other CJ's on here for inspiration for the past few months, and will be gathering the courage and the rest of the parts I need this next month to hopefully get started at the beginning of the new year. So, if anybody has any suggestions, or hints, tips, or tricks concerning... well... anything. let me know.

I hope to be a beneficial addition to this forum here. Though it looks like I am joining up at a time where some members are getting wicked irritated at all the new guys asking questions... At least thats what my twitter feed has been saying lately. If it makes anybody feel any better, I've been riding 10+ years since my first hand-me-down 60's honda 90 scrambler, I've just never done anything more to a bike than change the oil and switch the bars out...

I think that just about wraps it up. Look for my build thread, coming soon....

Cervin have you started anything on your bike yet? Is there a link to your build thread? I saw your intro, nice bike, but I am stoked to see your work... I had a similar idea to rewire and change to LEDs. Are you planning on changing the bulbs in the speedo and tach?

The backlight for the speedo is actually off, but at the moment I'm on my finals. I havent been able to work on it cosmetically but I've been constantly trying to fix some mechanical problems at the moment.

I didnt so much rewire the whole bike but clean up the wiring a bit- maybe sometime next season I'll get on to that...

But I dont really want to put up a build thread just yet- I've been collecting parts so that when I do decide to start, I'll have everything readily available!

Maybe we can compare CJ's after all this is over... haha!

But just like you I'm pretty inexperienced DX

edit: did you pick up the service manual yet? Its been helping me in slowly improving the bike functions! If you dont I have it in file here so just let me know

as for wiring, this was really helpful: www.oldmanhonda.com // http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/wiring350F.html

minus the electric start :p

Thanks for that wiring diagram link. I don't have a hard copy of the service manual, but I did find a PDF online, so that will work for now, I just have to print in out and bind it. 8)

Its nice to see somebody in my same boat, starting at the same time, and with about the same amount of knowledge. I'm down to compare bikes at any stage of the build!

Also, I'm sure youre going to lose the granny bars like I am, I think you should check this out.

I have never switched bars with through bar wiring like we have; but alas, this guy totally takes you on a pic intensive walkthrough basically. And, to top it off, its on a cj.
I just picked up my drag bars online...

oh jeez I've been looking for a step by step on the bar replacement- saved me some trouble here thats awesome

i already have my clubmans, sitting next to me as i type /petpet

It will definitely be a little trickier with clubmans, but I have seen it done before. That angle is a bitch....

dudes...fuck that whole process. if you can cut and solder then you will save yourself a lot of trouble. also, i ran the wires outside the bar which is much easier and looks just fine. Keep in mind, i ditched the clubmans for a nice set of terrozzi clip on handlebars, and that, to me, made all the difference. In order to run the wires outside the bar, you have to cut a notch out of the control area, which isn't too hard if you have a dremel. Trust me, i did the whole drilling and what not, it blew donkey dick, so when i switched to clubmans, i ran the wires outside, didn't like them so i switched to the clip ons. take it from someone who did the process 3x when i say, just take the easy route.

Crap......another new guy with tons of questions.......

Kidding man. Don't worry about all that drama. If you have a question, search for it first. If you still don't get the answer, ask. As far as the bars go, clip ons and rear sets have a tendency to "go" together. If you go lower than drag bars with stock foot controls, your elbows will probably be resting on your knees as you ride. FWIW: I ran clubmans with the wires run externally and clip ons with them run inside.

Welcome to the site!

milehigh, what dremel bit did you use to bore out a slot on the controls for the wiring to allow it to run outside of the bars? i've seen it done before, i just worry about going about it all wrong. Did your just saw off the little nipples on the inside that keep the controls from sliding around the bar?

Good call on the cut and solder route. Cervin and I are diligently taking notes.... :D

BigRich... I'd love to go lower with clip ons, but i am in the same boat as milehigh and cant do rearsets because I must gotta keep it some my lady can sit behind me. wah wahhh... (maybe my next one...) ;)

my dremel tool of choice is always the ceramic cutting blade. but you can use whatever you want, just take it easy as the control housing is pretty soft metal and can be broken. As for the notch, you can go two ways, either drill a hole once you figure out the position you want your grips in, or just run some electrical tape around the bar under the control and that should negate any slippage from the throttle. Either way works... also, you don't have the cut them out, they come out rather easily with a pair of pliers, at least in my case. Good luck and happy building! Merry christmas suckas!

nice timing, man, im headed out to home depot on my way home from work here in a couple hours and ill grab that dremel attachment.

on a side note, my fiance really likes your elvira... i was showing her all the other cj cafes around here, and she was quite impressed with yours especially, she was all about the red seat and accents, and the tank lid (is that the 3m di-noc vinyl?)

Jakub did you decide if you were going with clubmans or clip-ons? I bought a black clubman set and I havent really touched them yet when I started to get the itch to just stick to clip-ons... They're a little pricier but looks more natural.

If you decide to go with clubmans, I can send my set over to you at a cut price to offset both of our costs :p

Either way if you go with clip-on's then I'd just craiglist em :p

Let me know! How's everything going by the way?

Hey CERVIN I would love to take those clubmans off your hands... you name the price and I am all about it. PM me and we'll work out the deets... Whatevers clever.
I just saw girl with the dragon tattoo and it has fueled my flame for working... that bike was tits. the movie was terribly disturbing but the scenes with the motorcycle made up for it. its a cb350 and looks so sexy.
anyways. been getting parts to start building in january. my buddy is in town from new york and i let him take her out this evening while i followed on the scoot.
