So this is my friend Jon's CB we are rebuilding. The goal is to build, fab, and DIY as much of the stuff as possible.

We will hopefully be posting A LOT of pictures through the whole process.

So in the beginning I walked into work one morning and in Jon's office (my service manager)....

We stripped the bike and flipped the bars to get an idea of tank clearance

And instead of spending a ton of $$$ on a hoop we bought some pipe and made our own

Nice hoop would you make one for me??

Well we have got a lot of compliments on our hoop and we are really thinking about making them for people and selling them at a decent price. We should also be able to put a nice angle on the end kind of like the ones I see on DCC. The differences are the pipe we are using is about 16ga thickness (not as thick as the ones from DCC) and hope to make these with the flare on the end without welding like the ones from DCC look like they did. I have never bought or seen the DCC hoop in person I am just going off the pictures provided on their website.

What do you think is a good price for a hoop?

I will give you 20 shipped. but that may be a low ball offer to you. If not I will just have to make something myself
But any ways digging the build.

Yeah it would have to be more than $20.

Just find some pipe, make a template and fill the pipe with packed sand.

did you just bend it around the template by hand or did you have to force it with a mallet or something like that?

Me and my friend just pulled it around. You have to pack it with sand as much as possible to ensure it won't kink.

Just make sure when you make the template to calculate for the pipe spring back and also the template is as thick or thicker than the pipe.

is the pipe spring back why you had to cut a section out of the template that shows up in the 3rd pic from the end?

Ya we had to cut out a section to bend it past the point we wanted because it will spring back and wont be a full 180* U bend, it will be too wide.

gotcha, I was wondering why the shape of the template changed from one picture to the next :) That makes sense though.

I like the look of the hoop. If you are concidering on producing and selling those maybe you can start a thread in the classified section. I am building a brat style cb750 and would be interested in a rear hoop but would like it to rise up a little higher to contour the rear of the seat. Great way to make some xtra dough.

I think we will post a DIY for it and for the ppl who would rather buy them we take orders. We want to sell them cheap to the fellow DTT members but still make enough to cover gas, materials, and minimal labor.

We are working on putting a bend/flare towards the end to shape around the rear tire for clearance.

Just a few more pictures. Found a pic of the bike what it looked like before we started chopping. And a couple of pictures of the hoop welded in.

Also as far as paint goes we sourced a local powder coating place to do the frame and wheels and there is a NAPA paint shop around the corner from our office which makes it very convenient to get paint supplies and such. We are def going to go with a bc/cc setup on the tank, side covers, and other parts. Not sure on colors yet.

Updated Finally!

So it has been a while since I updated our progress. In this time brackets/tabs were taken off, new ones made for new parts, fiberglass seat made (and will be re-done before its finished) Rear sets attempted and frame and wheels sent to powder coat and starting to assemble. So more pics....

details on the front hub?

Stock polished front hub. We were just doing a quick mock up to see what it would look like with the new powder coat and ss spokes.

Did you have a more specific question about it?
