78 SR500 and cafe parts

I picked this bike up a year ago, but interest and time is low, plus I'm thinking of becoming a home owner..

As far as I know, it's been a local "1 owner" type of bike. A healthy runner; everything is in really great shape for it's age and mileage. Clean, clear title in hand, around 22,000 miles on her. The tank is immaculate inside, and this is exactly what you'd hope a 34 year old bike would be like. Greasy and a little dirty where you would expect, but preserved because of that, rather than left to sit and rot away.

I don't post here much, but I know the folks here have an eye an appreciation for these bikes, and I want it to go to a good home. Of course I need to get the right price or that's how I'll gauge if I keep the project or not.

I don't have a photo of the bike in stock trim, but it was completely stock except for a sportster muffler that had been added. I could easily flip it back to stock as well. I need to get some more/better pics, but for now..

I've also got alot of parts in addition to all stock parts:

Keihin FCR39 pumper carb and K&N filter (bike runs great with these!)

West Eagle / Nitroheads cafe seat

Daytona aluminum "goldstar" tank

Rex's Speedshop stage II CDI (better ignition curve, hotter spark- made in England)

Rex's battery eliminator capacitor

Flow hand-made flat track exhaust and supertrapp discs, open & closed end caps

Set of Yamaha spoked wheels, XS650 alloy rim front and XT500 alloy rim rear w/ drum brake

Shinko Trailmaster tires front and rear

There's probably something I forgot... a whole gasket set, etc...

As you can see I've got just as much in parts laying around! The bike was wet-sumping, which is an easy fix if it's the check valve seal (which it was, it gets brittle after 30 years..) and I installed a 5 bolt oil pump from a later model while in there. It's supposed that the 3 bolt design leaks a little volume so I upgraded to the later design.

I've also got a Kedo braided top end oil line kit. I think that's it.

If you're located near or in western Maryland, give me a heads up!

I work for a third party logistics company... we can find a way to ship it at my cost, but with crating materials etc you should probably expect an extra grand to the cost of the bike... and then be pleased when it's not quite as much.. that's how I look at things! That's just a guess, too.

I'd love it have it...but lets see what it all comes to. ;)

a grand to crate it up? i'm in the wrong business.... ;)

what is your asking price on the bike?

can you post close up pics of the motor? how is that oil pump upgrade panning out?

any bearing / bushing issues? wheels, neck, swing arm?

what size rims are on the bike in the picture? both 18"? tires good? that back one looks pretty slick in the pic...

are you selling bike plus additional parts as a 'lot'?

can I get pics of the additional items?

I think he meant that crating it up AND shipping could run about $1000.

Yea that's exactly what I meant!

I'll answer questions for the sake of doing so, but I really don't think the bike is 'rare' or desirable enough to have it shipped somewhere, unless you've got enough money that you just want it and don't flinch at a grand. I've seen plenty for sale on the west coast.. I'd keep my eye out. I looked for over a year before this one popped up only a few miles down the road!

what is your asking price on the bike? I think $1500 is a fair price in stock form

can you post close up pics of the motor? how is that oil pump upgrade panning out? I can take some. Oil pump 'upgrade' is fine.. it's just the updated style from a '80+ where the body is drilled and tapped for two more fasteners to hold it together.

any bearing / bushing issues? wheels, neck, swing arm? Nope, it's a solid bike that rides well

what size rims are on the bike in the picture? both 18"? tires good? that back one looks pretty slick in the pic... The rims ar stock, which is 19" front / 18" rear as is typical. The front tire isn't bad, and the rear tire needs replaced. That's half the reason I have the shinko trailmasters. I thought they would be a good all around tire, plus I was going for a scrambler / tracker idea (but not to mention people seem to be putting dual sport tires on cafe racers these days ???) If you didn't want them, fine, but I would throw them in for a 100

are you selling bike plus additional parts as a 'lot'? I would like to sell the bike and parts as a 'lot', however it might be better for me to sell most things separately. I've got probably $1500 in parts alone, but that alloy tank is alot of that.. I would sell the bike plus wahtever parts were desired

can I get pics of the additional items? I will try to get some pics this afternoon
