You've really created something fantastic. This bike is just magnificent.

Looks good. I'm curious as to how it rides. I contemplated that type of rear suspension, but went a different route with my CB900F.

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 07/31/2012!)

This is weird for my first post, but...absolutely love what you are doing. I think you need to tip the seat/cowl forward or down, whatever the word is, so that the bottom line of the seat matches the angle of the bottom line of the tank. Right now it makes it look like they both droop from the middle a little bit. Can see it most in the top photo. If you like it the way it is it will still be great.

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 07/31/2012!)

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

yes, the seat does look like its drooping towards the back a bit. The front of the seat pan is actually not resting flush on the subframe near the front, because it is not yet actually bolted down, so the weight of the hump is causing it to tilt back a bit. once I secure it down, it is more inline with the angle of the tank...not perfect, but I really don't want to cut and weld it at a better angle at this point in time.

Front rotors and right downpipe are in the mail. Then I need to get a CDI box and some petcocks. Hopefully at that point in time I will be abke to fire this thing up. Still haevn't heard it run:(

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 07/31/2012!)

If anything, I think the swingarm is strechted a tad too much :)

Good work!

LOOOVE the wheels! Truly cool, unique bike - subscribed.

Wow nice to see an update on this! Thing is looking awesome!

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 07/31/2012!)

thanks, pics are kinda out of order. I need to get some good outdoor ones as soon as it stops raining. I am not trying to make it look too nice at this point. Gotta get it on the road for testing, and then take it all apart for paint:)

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 05/09/2013)

Nice build. I hate to nit pick, but I would have done the swing arm mod in round tubing instead of square to match the flow.
Here's a Wes Cooley replica on Ebay. Not a bad price I think for $2500:

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 05/09/2013)

yes, I would have too, but don't have the facilities to make 180 degree bends in round tubing, and was impatient. I will see how it functions this way. Easy enough to chop the other stuff off and redo it if I want to. Thanks for the feedback

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 05/09/2013)

You could have piece welded just like the square but with round tube. I didn't mean to bend it into shape. And please tell me after such quality fab work on the rest you are not going with an automotive type bend exhaust on the upsweep pipes. Gets some bends and weld it up. I definitely like the upsweep better.
What are you going to do for a license plate/taillight mount?

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 05/09/2013)

yes, you are correct, I could have done it that way, but I didn't. The exhaust bends were cheap and used for proof of concept more than anything else. Once I get this thing on the road and ride it a bit, I will be switching to proper mandel bent tubing

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 05/09/2013)

not sure on the plate mount and taillight setup yet. still tossing it around in my head

I totally understand. Engineer it all first and then do the final piece.

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 05/09/2013)

Thats about the size of it. I am on a very limited budget, and mandrel bent tubing is a bit more expensive than standard off the shelf automotive exhaust pipe. So try it with the checp stuff, make sure it looks and works the way I want it to, then remake it with the expensive stuff. Twice the work, but at least if I mess up the first time I am not wasting expensive exhaust tubing
