78 XS-750 Cafe "Triple Threat" A tribute to yamaha, new and old

seems pickier about voltage

Yep, like any of these old bikes they are finicky. Good AGM, main ground cleaned up, and all the connections cleaned and use dielectric. Reg/rect. from Oregonmotorcycleparts does help too. The fuse box can also be a problem. ;)

I think i got all those bases covered.. i should check the ground though.. thanx for the website because my honda 450 definitly needs a decent rectifier

I'm a huge fan of the Yamaha Triples, was my first "Big Bike".
I like what you've done, very cool mate and right inline with what I've been collecting parts for. I've got an 81 850 that's currently torn down for rebuilt. I'm using different suspension than you are but still there are similarities. I too am keeping my cast wheels initially, though I'm close to done with my spoke wheel conversion.
This engine responds REALLY well to minor porting and a set of regrind cams from Delta. With the Wiesco pistons, a 3-3 exhaust and a set of carbs from a Hinkley Triumph (all but bolt on) it'll make shade over 100hp.

I also had a 77' 750. 1530 of the many thousands built....but mine looked nothing like your beautiful machine!!! I love what you did to it. Here's a pic of my old gal so people who haven't had one can see how ugly they can be! haha. Boy was it nice to ride on the highway though.
