I am going to look at a 79 CB650, but the owner does not have the gas tank gas cap key and it's locked. Like the CB500, can I knock out the pins with an all tool so I can inspect the tank (make sure it does not have heavy rust)?
IDK for how long they did this, but on my Honda, an actual KEY isn't necessary. A screwdriver, knife or whatever should open the tank. If that isn't the case, then either destroying it or calling a locksmith is your best bet.
Any key that will fit in the slot of my CB400f will open it. It is not a keyed or tumbler type lock. It is only a spring loaded cam lock, just push the key in and push down and turn to open it. Not familiar with CB650 to know if they are similar.
