79 CB750k Cant find Caliper Rebuild Kit... Options?

I am looking to rebuild the entire front brake system on my 750k, I can easily get everything I need except the kit to rebuild the caliper. Just wondering what some of my options might be if I can't find it. I'd like to inspect it and make sure everything is ok but I don't want to ruin the seals that are already in there as right now I believe that it is fine. Especially since I can't seem to find replacements.

this?

That link takes me to an empty shopping cart.... that said I believe you were probably pointing to the kit on that site. I had attempted to buy it and some other stuff this morning from there, but the caliper kit is sold out. I can't seem to find it anywhere else either.

These guys seem to have the seal if that helps

Naw I checked here too. I did some pretty aggressive google searching this morning. I don't think any of those seals will work on my year. I could be wrong. I don't know the dimensions of the piston or what parts might be cross-compatible. That I suppose might be a better way of rephrasing the question that is this thread.

Are there any other parts that I can (safely) make work if I want to rebuild this caliper?

that seal says it works for 79 750k models so at 5 bucks its a safe bet, at least you'll have the seal that you're worried about damaging. Other than that route look up the specs on cmsnl.com and try to find something at mcmaster carr that is resistant to brake fluid

Yep, you're right. I cross checked with a fiche and it is the correct part. I'll be pulling the whole brake off this weekend so I'll give it a good once over to make sure that's all I will need.

here is one

If the seal was used on other bikes the cross reference would show it as the same part #
Once you have the part# just enter the number into the Google search bar and it will find a gazillion places that sell that part., Enter just the part number at ebay and see whats there also.

Well, good news, due to my busyness and my slight laziness I didn't get around to ordering the parts until about a week ago, and during that time the kit at parts n more came back in stock. And now bad news... I pulled the old seal out yesterday and the new one is a smaller diameter.

I have been in a lot of these bikes before, but never rebuilt a caliper. So my question is, is this the "wrong" part, or does the new seal stretch to fit around the piston? The new seal has an outer diameter only slightly larger than the outer diameter of the piston.

My assumption is that this is the wrong part as the kit also only came with 2 slide bolt boots, and there are 4 on the brake; also the dust cover boot seems small. That said the part number on the box matches the part number on the site, and the picture on the site shows exactly what's in the kit which is stated to be for a 79 750k. Just need to figure out if this needs to be returned or what my next steps are... The image below shows the comparison of the 2 seals, the piston, and the caliper.

You sure you have a 79? Go by the serial number, not the title. Honda's sometimes did mid model year changes too....so the S/N is much more relevant than the "Year"

But that is the wrong size seal...

I haven't looked up the serial number, but there is a big "1979" on the serial plate on the fork. Not saying that is necessarily related to the brake that is on the bike, but it was "entirely original" when i bought itso I'm making the assumption that's the brake that's in it. Also everything looks exactly like what is in the actual honda service manual for a 79 that came with the bike.

When in 1979? My 76 CB360 was built in 1975....

the year on the stem is when it was built, the serial number designates the model year, the title / registration reflects the year it was first registered /titled... Rarely are all three dates the same. Cars are much like that too, but bikes are the worst.

Not saying you aren't correct, but careful research so you get the right parts.

Whats the measurements of the piston?

I looked that up on ebay and found a guy selling a piston with new seals but I haven't had a chance to try the seals yet but it looks like it should fit.

I guess my real question here is, does that seal look like the right seal, or am i correct in assuming it's wrong?

That said, I have been on the parts and more site and the same year 750F rear caliper rebuild kit is part number 29-0010 and the 750K front caliper rebuild kit is 29-0010B. However, when I add to the cart the part number shown is 29-0010, and that is the number on my packing slip. I am thinking something might be wrong with their system and I was sent the wrong kit.

The piston is 42.7mm wide, and the bore is 42.8mm wide.
