Bought my bike for $300 bucks year or two ago. This is how it sits these days. Recently took it apart again to do some upgrades and work out any kinks i have. I will be replacing the horrible stock keihin carbs with a single flatside keihin from a cr125. ill try to throw some updated pics up when i get the chance.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

me likey. so you gonna run a front spoke?

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

Man you can't get dick for range on that tank, but I love the look.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

Yeh the tank def makes it an around town bike. Im gonna redo the tunnel to squeeze a lil more gas in there. When i drive out of town i normally carry some spare gas with me. When i get a chance i wanna fab up a leather extra fuel holder, Kinda a rip off of nash motorcycle comapnies. Rightnow no plans for a front spoke. Mostly cause i cant spare the change. Once i get the motor built well see.
Been wire wheelin off the oxidation on the motor til i take the head off. Built up bad cause previous owner lived in a town by alot of saltwater.

Frame got some paint to. Its been raining so much that paintin has been put on hold.

I thought about eliminating the swing arm but the bike runs straight like it is. I am sure it will take away from the over all fit and finish of the bike but it runs perfect with it.

Woke up this morning for class and couldnt help but notice someone bricked my car the night before. Wasnt robbed but damn now i cant buy more parts for my bike. Instead i must pay my insurance.

i live in a university town and it was parked down in the bar area, couldve been any drunk asshole. Who knows. One more reason motorcycles are better then cars, No windows to be broken.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

Love this bike. Very unique and looks like a blast to run around on.

Nice job.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

Got a chance to work on my bike today. Finished up some painting and then turned my attention to the motor. Here you can see it kinda mocked up with the fender i am gonna cut some and use. Also in the pic is my msr fuel container i picked up from a camping store and my buddies truck hes building in the background.

I have been driven it for about 2 years without opening it up to see how it looked. Was very surprised to see it so clean.

After i get the motor cleaned up and painted things should start moving pretty quickly. Not pictured is some replacement steering neck bearings, and a new muffler. Bout time to start ordering some more parts. Ill try to take some pics of the cb125 progress soon.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

i love the chop man, the tank is awesome. Good choice on that small tank...who cares if you can't go long distance?

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

Thanks guys. Its an around town bike so i dont need but so much gas, if i do decide to push the limits ill be carrying extra fuel in the msr can. there isn't any off the shelf hop up parts for the kz, so cutting weight is the easiest way to go a lil faster. Id love to do a full rebuild and bore it out/ use some modified cb350 pistons to bump up the cr and p&p the head but i am a broke college kid for a few more years.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

I'm working on a kz400 right now too. Love this one though! Totally different!

Could just get a spare head, get it milled down a little and cam made up and be making a lot more power http://www.armbell.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12394

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

Yeah ive seen that on kz400.com before. But i just don't have the cash flow for that, the cam alone is about two hundred something. When its all back together and running im gonna start saving for cb350 pistons and a new valve train and etc. etc.

Re: 79 KZ400: No idea what to classify it as

put my girls bike together a little bit tonight. Got little bit of work left but thought ited look cool with a smaler seat, some cut down zbars, and gonna try to repair the stock tank. Gotta get it together by xmas or i might not get laid for awhile.

God damn. That's what I expected when I opened mine up. Once you have the rubber off, boiling in lemon juice really knocks that shit off.

The frame got put together for the time being. Still lots of work to be done. Engine still getting cleaned for paint. Ordered some clip ons yesterday as well. Shoudl eb coming together more over next couple weeks.
