oh how i envy those with garages/workshops/etc etc. here she is in her new (temporary) home...my kitchen!
i wanted to mount everything up to see how the wiring would route throughout the bike. and it's also been a really looooong time since she's been in one piece. it's nice to see things fitting together ;D
what ya think of the battery box location? still need to trim a bit more above the shock mount so the seat fits just a bit lower. and you can also see the nest of wiring i need to get through over the next couple weeks.
man i can't wait to hear how this exhaust sounds ;D
got around to trimming down the old seat foam. i think of got the general shape, but i want to put a layer of memory foam. i'm kinda tempted to cut a portion of the memory foam pad that's on my bed ???
haha...well it's actually not the actual mattress...just the memory foam pad that goes on top of the mattress. I don't think i'll miss a couple square feet
It may just be the camera angle...the battery actually tucks in nicely underneath the gearbox. And there's a ton of clearance with the ground.
Need some opinions. I can't decide between (a) seat with hump or (b) flat seat with slight upward angle. I kinda like (b) with the clip-ons that I'm using, which have a higher rise. And I'm diggin the minimalist look. But a lot of work already went into (a). I guess I could just have both and switch to one or the other when I want to change the overall look of the bike. Opinions?
(a)
I do like the look of (a) as it follows a line from under the tank to the back quite nicely. That said (b) is similar to what i'll be doing with my Harlot CX but i'll be running drag bars. Might have to sit on the fence on this one mate, but if i fall off the fence i'll land on (a).
good question. but once the key is turned, it seems to be locked pretty securely in place until i turn off the ignition. If there were more weight on the key pulling it downward (i won't even be having the key chain on there), then i'd be more concerned. i think it should be fine.
Not really any updated pics. As we speak, everything is at the powder coater. In the meantime, I'm prepping the motor and final drive for paint. Here is everything the day before sending for PC. It'll be a couple weeks before I get everything back.

Re: '81 CX500...Round 2? Some stuff back from powder coater
Just picked up my frame, swing arm, and other bits from the powder coater. It's called bronze pearlescent. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for wheels, forks, triple, etc etc which will be done in a combination of high gloss and matte black. But at least this will let me start mounting the motor, electrical, and other bits.
so i have to move back into my parents house for a year (goin back to school...leaving the corporate life for nursing), and the great thing is i now have a garage to work in. man it's nice to work in a warm dry place. well i had to move the bike in pieces, so here it is after a night of reassembly and after getting new tires mounted.
main things still left to do:
-polish and clear coat valve covers, radiator, battery tray, and maybe the tank
-assemble calipers and brake lines
-fill with fluids
-upholster seat
-wire up brake light and bar-end turn signals, and finish up rest of wiring
-por15 the tank
other than that, i'm feeling pretty good about the progress
I've been lagging...but here's an update for posterity sake.
I botched the POR15 a long time ago, and finally had to bite the bullet and send it to get chemical dipped to get that stuff out. Came back nice and clean inside and out, so I got started on REALLY polishing the tank...about 30% done, then clear it (with this POR15 GlistenPC product...supposed to be able to stick to polished metals).
