82 CB900F... The Devil Is In The Details

Re: 82 CB900F... Yeah a bobber build

Back to the welder today for seat mounts and battery tray (tray will be under the gas tank). I picked up one of the new Li-fe batteries... it is tiny!

For those of you looking to minimize costs for the Under $1k Competition: When I cut the headlight frame to shorten the length, I kept the cut pieces (the original location for the bolts that hold the headlight). I will be using those for the seat mounts. Also, the battery tray will be made from the original battery tray.

As it stands right now, I'm thinking I will not have a rear fender... thoughts?

Re: 82 CB900F... Yeah a bobber build

Well it's decided... this bike will not have a fender. After going back and forth that's where I landed...

Re: 82 CB900F... Yeah a bobber (sorta) build!

I did some real work today and finally beat the living hell out of those rearsets. Here take a look.

*The full rearset in the pic is not the same model it's off my other 900, but its really close.

Eventually, I'll get it powdercoated along with the rest of the frame. That reminds me I don't think I've posted any pics of the bike since I got it back from the welder this last time. Oh well, I'm tired must get sleep. :p

dude! you've chopped the footpeg mount off

I'm not sure how you're going to mount your footpegs now? I was kinda thinking you'd just be chopping the back half of the plate away, leaving at least the swing arm hole, and keep the peg mounting holes in tact. They also attach the unit to the frame? At the moment, it looks like all that's holding it are the master cylinder mounts?

I'm really confused now. Maybe I'm tired too ???

cheers

Re: 82 CB900F... Yeah a bobber (sorta) build!

Hard to see but I think the peg mounts are still there. It should be located at about the first bend of the brake pedal? Atleast I hope its still there unless Ronin has something up his sleeve that we don't know about?? ;D

yeah, I had a good look, but they're gone.

I think you may be onto something tho' because he seems to have kept the swing arm mount and lower engine mount aside, so maybe he does have something up his sleeve ;)

Ronin! Get in here now and explain yourself ;D Inquiring minds need to know.

Re: 82 CB900F... Yeah a bobber (sorta) build!

Sorry for the confusion fellas, I had cut the rearset without taking a before pic so I used the rearset from my other 900 just to give folks an idea of the work involved. Even though it is from a CB900, the location of the foot peg is different. I'm sure someone knows why Honda made the change, but I don't. Check the picture for more details.

Looks cool.

Howcome your builds not catching as much flack as mine?

Ah. NOW I get it ;) You've cut up the US domestic version, but the 'before' pic is the Euro/Oz 'sports kit' rearset. They gave a better riding position, and part of the kit was also the clip-on handlebars. As to why Honda thought you guys wouldn't want a better riding position - I have no idea ??? You may have been better off using the rearset versions?

The support on this site is amazing, I’m very thankful for any "flack" I may get from the others. I’m sure you are too.

Also, my bike is badass.

Re: 82 CB900F... The Devil Is In The Details - Phase II

Phase I complete! I got the basics wired up to make it legal and did some joy riding this morning. It ran strong, but is burning oil. Many complements from various folks, especially older guys who dig the nostalgic look. (Almost got a shot of the bike with a green 1954 Buick in the background - woulda been sweet)
I want to say thanks to everyone for helping me get the bike to this point. Now that the sun is returning to California it's time to ride. 8)

But, the war's not over yet. The bike has structure, but as the title says the devil is in the details and there are several that need to be addressed before this bike is finished and posted on show n shine.

Cheers.
