'82 GS 650L ... Hates the throttle

PancakeShake

Been Around the Block
So the '82 GS 650 we have been working on hates getting throttle.

The carbs have been cleaned 1000 times so there is no blockage anywhere.

The only ting we changed was the float heights and reset them to the factory setting, however, after that we went from a running bike, to a backfiring rough running bike.

So, if the bike doesnt like the throttle (very very touchy up and down when you flick the throttle) it backfires out the exhaust are the carbs giving the bike TOO much gas, or not enough gas?

Thanks guys

The popping, if it sounds like what I think it is, happens when the cold air is sucked into the super heated exhaust gasses. The cool fresh air provides the oygen for little mini explosions inside the pipes. Check the seals from engine>exhaust.

Are you running the stock airfilter? Had a gs650gl that would start up and barely idle with backfiring when trying to give it gas. It needs the big airbox for the cv carbs.

Stock air box, yup.

It wouldnt start, but my friend pulled the air filter out of the box, re-sealed it, now it start up and idles, but still wont make it far down the road without crapping out.

Is there anyone who has put pods on this bike?

I have heard that this particaluar bike HATES pods. It would just be soooo much easier to tune the carbs. If anyone has successfully put pods on, what size jets did you go to when you rejetted?

Thanks
