86 GS 450, Daily Rider

DTT: Philadelphia
Here are a few pics of my recent purchase, I've had it about 4 weeks and it has been a true joy to ride and tinker with. It has quite a few NOS parts and a few neat performance add-ons that really bring this little motor to life. It isn't a cafe, but more of a 'standard' vintage bike. Bobdot and I got together for a ride on Sat. and the weather was perfect for pics, I'm sure he will post more of his bike. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think.

Thanks fellas, it is a neat little bike....and yup they are CR Specials, and boy do they sound redonkulous. Good eye!

Thats Awesome. I knew I saw some little red letters, haha. ;D

sweet pics indeed fellas.

seeing the pair with the bar end mirrors have prompted a purchase to change my mirrors out asap lol.

i love driving in philly but i don't know that i could ride in philly. i was there a few months ago and saw a few bikes up at the art museum. got to talk to a nice guy on a early 70 honda. seemed like it'd be cool to ride up there, just couldn't imagine doing it.

very nice bike you have there. both of you.

After learning to ride in the country, it is definitly different riding in this urban playground. But still tons of fun, Kelly Drive and West River Dr. are amazing, Rt. 23 is great, Broad St. is fun and 25th st. in South Philly allows your ears to have orgasams. Then you start heading into Chester County or into Bucks County and great roads are quite abundant.

I'm up in the Allentown area, when my bike is finished (hopefully this friday ::fingers crossed) I'd love to go down and ride, and so would Go.

To be honest, there isn't much else I would want to do....haha. It has a ton of add ons
-CR Special Carbs w/ K & N Pods
-Accel Ignition
-Progressive suspension, front and back
-MAC Exhaust
-Barnett Clutch
-Sargeant Seat
-Front caliper from a SV 650
-Dozens of NOS parts, fresh within the past few years (tank, gauges, side covers...etc)

If anything I will rebuild the engine over the winter and paint it (hes got 33,9XX miles), I think resevoir ohlins in the rear would be bitchin as well. Thanks for looking.

That's a sharp bike.. I ride a cafe'd GS 400 (82)

I'd kill for that 2 into 1 pipe ya got there... Did it come with the bike? If not WHERE DID YOU GET IT!!!?

I have an '81 GS450 as a daily rider. It was badly neglected and left outside for years, so it was in pretty rough cosmetic shape. I've changed it up a bit. Gained quite a bit of performance with pod filters and rejet. I rode it from Philadelphia to Utah and back last year, (about 5,800 total miles,) and a round trip to New Orleans, about another 3,000 miles.

Great bike. A little cramped for me for the long trips, but its a smooth, powerful engine that runs great.

Dennis Kirk has the Mac exhaust for the GS450. There were so many bikes similar to this bike that the same pipe fits a whole bunch of different models of around 450-500 cc.

The Mac exhaust is available with black headers and chrome megaphone muffler from Dennis Kirk. I think Mac also makes a full chrome version, but DK doesn't carry it.

I didn't care much for the sound of the muffler. It was a bit tinny. I made my own fiberglass baffle.
