'86 Interceptor false tank project

Been Around the Block
Hey guys, time to pick your brains a bit. I have a 1986 VFR750f Interceptor project going, and it's time to think about tank designs. I want something old school in appearance, sort of Manx or Dunstall, and I'm thinking the easiest way to make something to fit the frame would be to put in a plastic tank with a false cover over it, inspired by this: http://caferacerseats.co.uk/products/124-triton-style-tank-cover

Any thoughts about cheap plastic fuel tanks/cells in the 3-4 gallon range that might fit under? My thoughts are to find the actual tank first, then fabricate a cover to fit.

You'd be better off having a steel or aluminum fuel cell built to fit the space than trying to find something that'll work.

Of course, and I could probably do a reasonable job of fabbing that up. I was just hoping for a cheap and easy solution. (Aren't we all?) fitting around the air box is the tough part.

I don't know about a plastic fuel cell, but I know that the FZR 400 & 600 had a steel tank with a plastic cover.

I was thinking about encapsulating a regular cheap 1970's Honda steel tank in fiberglass in order to change the shape.
