That's good to know. BS40 is also 77mm +/- . And slides are nominally 33mm diameter on XS BS38 and GT750 BS40 according to my notes. I have no idea if teh cutaway is the same on both. For some reason I didn't take a note of that.

Obviously the body of BS38 is very different to a BS40 which has a huge ramp in the floor presumably to increase air speed at low revs/load.

I just read the last post on forks re the extra holes in the damper rods. Are you referring to the so called Minton Mods or the two large holes when fitting gold valves (emulators).

I can't remember too much of what I did, from memory, I think there were two holes in the damper rods, I read somewhere if you drill two more holes it improves the performance of the forks. You can also replace the caps and add air I've read..
It's OK thanks. I found the article. It was by Joe Minton.

Do you treat the polished aluminum in any way to keep the shine? I am five years past initial polishing of my GL1000 covers and runners. Just wondering if they should come off come Spring for a touch-up. The bike hasn't seen that many miles since polishing and I wipe it down often.

No matter which timing plate you run for a PMA conversion, you still have to do a custom stator mounting plate. Hughe sells one for $60, which is actually pretty reasonable considering the tooling time. I run a VZ800 stator on mine. They're often on Ebay for $10 or less and brand new for $80. There's about 40 bikes that ran the same stator.
