A cm400 and a youngster

If you're running pods and a less restrictive exhaust I'd start up one size on pilot and main

well, when i first got this bike, it was a pretty big mess. i let a local shop take the carbs to be completely dissasembled and sonic cleaned. i never took them apart to see what the jet sizing is but i balanced them out and it runs like a pro. ive never felt the need to mess with them at all.

so simple, its stupid ;)
thanks! gonna give that a try. it cant hurt anything, like i said, it runs with no hiccups. i ride the crap out this thing..

Yeah jetting does vary with air temp, I'm just thinking of like around a standard like 75 or 80 degrees or something like that.

I'll start with one up on each. What type of jets should I get? Cuz thread sizes vary. How do I know if different jets from online will fit?

. Order Kei hin jets for your year n you'll be good. They'll have the star shaped k on them like the diaphragm cover has

Thanks! And I saw your cm build, it is amazing!

Update:

So I got more of the engine painted and started assembling back together. Everything went back fairly easily. I still have the cylinders to paint an the valve and side covers need to be polished. Here are some pics.

I also need to paint the starter.

So what's the best way to install valves back in without a compressor? And also, what's the best way to polish all of the covers? Do I need to hand polish the crevices? What grit should I sand everything to?
There is a lot of dark gray on the covers, and I don't think it is paint. I've tried to remove it. Should I just sand it until it's gone?

i bought the 8" grinder/polish wheel..it works ok once you get the hang of it..the motor will get hot, it loses torque, so you have to find a happy place as far as pressure and wheel speed.. i use the brown polishing compound (its all there at HB) and then mothers aluminum polish at the end. i swapped out the grinding wheel for a wire and it works really good for taking rust off of just about anything. makes the nuts and bolts look new again..before side cover polish

and after maybe an hour total of polish wheel time

unfortunately it wasnt too cleaned up in this pic but you get the idea, it works! it is quite time consuming...that bike was a hot mess when i picked it up..have fun dude!

It looks good to me! I have a bench grinder and I have a couple wire wheels for it too! It's the best thing ever for getting rust off. It has really helped in cleaning up my spokes and nuts and bolts. I'll have to get the polishing wheel and compound. Should I sand pre polishing? And also, how do I get in between fins? The valve cover has some hard to reach places.

Ok so I haven't painted the cylinders because I can't get a gasket off of it. It's not the head gasket, it's the lower one so its just paper, but it's been melted onto the cylinders. I have tried scraping it off, soda blasting it off. It just won't work. What chemicals could I use?

Use a heat gun on the gasket and a razor blade or Xacto knife. Be very careful not to gouge the surface. Don't use a wire wheel or anything similar since the surface has to be perfectly flat.

I finally got the cylinders painted after it had cooled down for a couple weeks. It got up to about 60 degrees so I was able to paint. The rest of the engine can be assembled when I bake the paint.

I also need to install the valves on the head but I don't have a valve spring compressor. Does anyone have anything that works for them? I have searched YouTube and things but with these dual valve springs on this cylinder head it makes it quite difficult to push down. Maybe if I had someone help me I could do it though. Any input helps!

Never mind about the valves, I got them installed with a friend. I am baking the cylinders today and should have the rest of the engine assembled later today.

So I baked the cylinders an assembled the rest of the engine. It looks pretty good! I am pleased with the paint. I still need to polish all of the covers and I am going to be doing that over the next few weeks along with other parts that need to be polished. Question though. How well does steel stay polished? Does it rust easily? I am going to polish all the spokes but I don't know if they will easily rust. Here are some engine pics.
