Jobs are available, but like anywhere, it depends on your skillset.
Housing can be expensive, especially in Sydney, but it depends on location.
Schools vary from OK to very good.
It's a large country with a comparatively small population, conditions vary immensely in all parameters.
I would definitely recommend that you travel to as many states as possible to get a realistic idea of the possibilities (and don't forget Tasmania - it has cheap housing and a beautiful and varied landscape, but a small population and can get cold in winter).
