A little bit different

I was just wondering how it is in Australia? As far as jobs, housing, schools. The wife and I are wanting to visit and possibly relocate.

Jobs are available, but like anywhere, it depends on your skillset.
Housing can be expensive, especially in Sydney, but it depends on location.
Schools vary from OK to very good.

It's a large country with a comparatively small population, conditions vary immensely in all parameters.
I would definitely recommend that you travel to as many states as possible to get a realistic idea of the possibilities (and don't forget Tasmania - it has cheap housing and a beautiful and varied landscape, but a small population and can get cold in winter).

Good luck,

i'll put my 7c worth in too.....

unemployment is running at around 5% and as crazy says there are jobs to be had. i've got a dumbarsed warehouse job and bring home about $650 per week, whereas tradesmen can expect well over $1000 a week and often considerably more. office type work can be really well payed but expect stiff competition for the good jobs

houses in any of the capital cities are going to set you back at least $400k and rents are getting rare and expensive but if you fancy the country life houses are cheaper but the cost of living out there is higher

where are you coming from? the qualifying rules for immigration are getting stricter regarding qualifications/country of origin/financial status but you could check all that on the oz govts website i guess

another way of looking at australia is that its the size of the US with as widely varied environments and people, theres just a lot more empty space inbetween them.

Coming from the US. I work as a saw filer/tool maker right now. Being in the US Navy in have traveled quite a bit and my wife and I have lived all over the US. Been checking out immigration rules and what now, just hoping for some input from people who live there rather then what a government Site says about it. Looks like a beautiful country and at the very least it will be a nice vacation.

Let me know if you're coming to Sydney so I can meet you and point out the good (and bad) points of our city!

I'm a Sydney-sider like Stroker - lived here my whole life, and have traveled a fair bit too. I feel pretty lucky that I live where I do, and honestly don't think it gets much better than Sydney and Melbourne... but that could be bias speaking! Definitely can't see anyone getting disappointed if they relocate here though!
