A little embarrassed, but..

For those not in the loop here, this is the guy who just built a 1000cc, lighter-than-hell, suck-your-nuts-out-your-asshole-kind-of-acceleration-while-at-the-same-time-making-you-think-you're-King-Shit-of-F*ck-Mountain, twin. I guess that's how I'd describe Kool-Aid.

Hahahahaha! I think this will have to be my signature!

Back to the scheduled thread, however, I did get the new bars on the Hog today--some big ol' beach bars. I will try to get pics tomorrow, if the weather cooperates. It looks a bit more retro with those, and rides a hell of a lot better, too. Not a whole lot more cutting scheduled till winter, and then it is on! Like I said earlier, though, it will be getting a little steampunk treatment, but not a whole lot in the diet deptartment. This will never be a performance bike, so I will not try for pretenses. As Hurley says, I will instead "Strive for Rad!"

Oh, and I waved at 3 sport bike riders today--how's that? ;D

Nice, you need more than one bike and if the wife wants to just be a passenger, they are much happier on a nice big ol bike. My big bike is my GL, but she still comes with me on the 450 for short rides. Just make it yours and you will get the respect from 99% on here. It's not like you only ride Harleys, wear Harley clothes and tell everyone if it ain't a Harley it is shit. So no worries. Hell if I had the $$ I would have at least one Harley. And you are right, that bike will never be a sports bike, but it will do the job you want in style and comfort. Well in style once you fix it ;D

Thanks, Joe! I have put about 200 miles on it, and I am starting to really dig it. A different bike for a different purpose, and it is pretty dang comfy. I swapped out the mini apes for a set of full 1 1/4" beach bars, and I really dig that. I was able to hide all the wiring, and then went with stainless cables to match. Looks a lot like the blue bike you put on. That 21" wheel idea is rad! Love the spokes on that sucker. I got a whole lotta ideas on this to dress it up, but most of that will wait till winter. Oh, how is the low bar bike to ride?

If I need anything, I will def be hitting you up! Thanks again!

last one is cool. Pipes too long, and it's got too much chrome, but the stance and everything also looks awesome. I'd love to have a bigger harley and do some cross country cruising for sure.

Ya i am a big fan of the gangster syle slop tails for sure.... the 21 is really not to bad to do. i have a build thread up in the bobber section going over the one i am doing now, shaved a leg to ditch the duels and went with a 6 piston single sided instead... you can also do like i did on mine... i laced a 21 hoop to my stock rim, ran a 120x21 front tire on mine...t he road king i am building now has a 140x21! sucker is HUGE!!!! and does wonders for handling... personally. i rock apes... custom made apes... but apes none the less. i put on about 20k a year on my harley so i ride alot, i have rocked the beach bars (have prob the same ones you just put on there in my garage if they are the 1.25s) but they kill my back, the apes are really nice to keep your spine strait for a long ride... if you look at MY harley build you will also see that i am making a quick release fairing for it, over 1000 watts of stereo boom in that sucker as well... my dad wants one now as well so i will be doing a full fairing on your exact bike here in a few weeks. ill post pics as i do it so you can get an idea and run with it if you would like. i know i have some chrome and gloss black powder switch hosuings, master cyl, and i am sure a ton more crap for your bike. yoiu think of anything you need let me know... also... it looks to have true duels on there, do you have a stage 1 in there? what year is it? fuel injected or carb? if fuel injected do you know what tuner you have? all this stuff will help when working on your set up... but your right, they are not built for speed def built for cruising. i have a buddy selling a shield for that bike pretty cheap as well

here is a shot of the front end of my bike with the 21 i laced... Jirah rim (40 bucks), laces to stock 19 spokes (free), 120/21 metzler me 880 (120 bucks), Tube (7 bucks), wheel strip (7 bucks), coating, lace, true, (free done by me)
you can do this pretty cheap you see and get a killer look! your stock fender willw ork just fine on there as well

ford... i trust these are the bars you have on your bike... i had them on a bike i did for my uncle last year.. these are also the trim rings on the lamps i am talking about

here we swapped bars and cables cause his back hurt to much, i added a stereo as well, you can also see the smaller turn sigs up front instead of the huge stock ones... granted this is a road king but the same basic idea

Hey man... For cruising around the countryside with you wife in tow, theres not much out there better than a big ol' American land yacht. Good on ya. Now cut it up. ;)

There is nothing quite like a big bike for a long road trip, especially with a passenger. I have a Honda Valkyrie that I will most always choose for a long trip. The Harley (as long as you don't acquire the HD personality!) should be much the same.

Nothing like a bagger when you are heading for Costco either!

Ha ha! I am finding some pretty cool HD people, who just love two wheels--no matter the brand. No stereotype attitude from this kid!

Here is a pic of my setup now. Looks sweet and feels pretty good. I can see what you are saying about the long trips, but I we will see how she goes. I got my pillion rigged up for quick attach, too, so that I can smooth off the fender for a loooong look!

Joe,
Thanks for the wheel breakdown. Looks really cheap to just change out a hoop, but I REALLY like the look of the fatty spokes. We'll have to see... Are those trim rings HD stuff or aftermarket? Good eye on the true duals. They are a Samson set. It's running Stage One through a Mikuni carb. It breathes really good. The local shop did the tuning on it, and it is pretty spot on once it is warmed up. And it sounds pretty good, too. I'm going to PM you for a couple other things I am looking for, so be ready. It seems you are the authority!

Oh, and for fun, with my boss's springer:

you will find that almost all HD owners are cool, most of them have had soem pretty sick CB750s i find... the HD riders are d bags seems to come more from the metric riders than them actually being d bags... you can also look into a street glide front fender it is so smooth... the fatty spokes is a DNA wheel, just have to cut your wheel spacers from stock to 3/4 and 7/8n and your goldent (i still measure every bike i do to be safe) those true duels are really nice pipes... somethign you can do that will clean up your air cleaner and make things look better (i hated how mine hit my leg) is cut the center out of the air cleaner... then bolt that up... looks way better
if you are not comfotable doing it, sent it to me ill cut it for you i have done about 40 now ha hahaha justhas a more racey look and does not hit your leg

on mine i cut it and i coated it... looks like this

SWEEET!!

Have to agree, there's just something about a bagger with a solo seat. This is mine. After this pic, I swapped out the handlebars and replaced the seat with a Corbin. Love this bike on long trips. Sure beats the Honda Aero.
