About died

Got home from a ride a couple nights ago, and was shaking a bit after a pretty close call. I was riding down a small little road in town here going about 40 when a car traveling in the opposite direction turned right in front of me. Hit the brakes hard and locked up the back wheel. Turned the bike completely sideways but was able to keep it up. The girl driving looked like she has had her license for about 2 days. She was chatting away on her phone and just looked at me like she had no idea why I would be riding my motorcycle on the same road she was using.

People like that just piss me off. Ever had any close calls of your own?

I'm sure everyone here has lots of these stories. Kind of comes with being on two wheels, bicycle or motorcycle. Riding through Newport Beach or Laguna Beach during the day on two wheels is one of the scariest things I've ever done. Almost no consideration from anyone, and if I was hit I have a feeling their money and lawyers would make things very difficult for me

Basically, every ride's a good ride if I get home safe, I try not to let assholes ruin my day, and try to keep my mind one step ahead of people. Never stay in someone's blind spot for too long, and glare at every driver within 20 ft around you and anticipate what they might do

Had the same situation last week but I didn't had the chance te avoid the car.. I was going 70Km/h.. result is a broken motorcycle and a lot of pain everywhere! But I didn't broke any bones!

Woah! You got lucky man! I know the lame bike and bruises aren't cool but shit could have been much worse. I'm glad you faired as well as you did.

Wow, thank God nothing happened to you, my cousins husband wasn't that lucky about 15-17 yrs ago, he was an aspiring soccer player, scouts were ready to sign him up to play professionally, unfortunately a car came out of no where on a country road, hit him and took off, now one leg is slightly shorter than the other and he walks with a limp. As for the driver, talk about coincidence, it so happens that the driver was his fathers good friend, after the incident the driver took off and stop by his father house to let him know he had hit someone and fled because he was scared and didn't know what to do. I believe the friendship ended there.

Only have had a few close calls in my time, mostly because of the lack of traffic. But the few times I have had them, it was because some bitch was on her phone.

Most of the "small little roads" in my town are called "streets", and they usually have speed limits of less than 40 mph, more likely 25 or 35.

A few weeks ago someone I am acquainted with drove their SUV into the back of a Harley sitting at a red light and killed it's rider. I would not be surprised if the driver of the SUV was drunk or on a cell phone or both.

I do not feel sorry for either the driver of the SUV or the Harley rider, which some may think is a radical statement but it makes sense. Every motorcycle rider knows, or at least should know that what they are doing is more dangerous than traveling in an automobile or truck. If the Harley rider had been in another automobile instead of on a motorcycle then what happened would have been a routine "rear=ending", which happens thousands of times each day. But motorcyclists are doing what they do by choice, they are taking a high risk by choice, just like a sky-diver or bicycle messenger in NYC, so when they do tangle with an automobile who can they complain?

It is a fact that in the USA driving an automobile is a right not a privilege, everyone knows the drivers have only to pass the simplest tests to get on the road, and it is your choice to mix it up with them on a motorcycle isn't it?

Personally I am fully aware that I am putting myself at more risk riding a motorcycle, it is more dangerous than being in an automobile in the case of an accident, that is common sense. So if I am killed or maimed while doing it I will take responsibility because I know that the oil companies, auto manufacturers, and cell phone companies will never let legislation pass into law to let only sensible and intelligent people use motor vehicles.

IF someone is so naive that they do not know there are careless stupid people using cell phones while driving cars, then I would say they don't belong on the road themselves, let alone on a motorcycle.

So you have no sympathy for a man who is killed, crossing the road, by an inebriated driver?

yup.turning left off a freeway ramp during my commute to work the twat in the lane next to me decided she didn't want to be stuck in the intersection so she decided that the lane I was in would keep her bmw out of said intersection.this was just the latest incident,it happens quite a bit here in l.a.,so when I ride like a complete asshole I don't feel too bad about rippin past someone or lane splitting.last time I was riding like a nice boy I got tatered on the freeway.
on a side note did swivel change his name? to say something radical doesn't always garner admiration, sometimes it just makes you a cunt

Where the fuck did you come up with that? Who was talking about that? The thread was about motorcycle and car accidents wasn't it? If you said "So you like to put lipstick on clowns" it would have been as relevant a statement and as valid an assumption. From now on I think you should do that, no matter what the thread the only thing you should ever add again is that question, "So you like to put lipstick on clowns?". Your contribution will be no more or less helpful if you stick to that rule. Good luck.

How is a man, hit by a drunk, more culpable for his fate because he sat atop a motorcycle than he would be were he walking across the road?

Your assertion that a complete lack of pity for a motorcyclist crushed by a buffoon is reasonable because he is aware that his vehicle is less capable of withstanding it than would be another automobile, is absurd on its face.

I surely appreciate the suggestion as to my future posts, though, given the wealth and breadth of knowledge you have displayed in your time here. Just think of all the Nortons you've kept us from cutting up!
