Most of the "small little roads" in my town are called "streets", and they usually have speed limits of less than 40 mph, more likely 25 or 35.
A few weeks ago someone I am acquainted with drove their SUV into the back of a Harley sitting at a red light and killed it's rider. I would not be surprised if the driver of the SUV was drunk or on a cell phone or both.
I do not feel sorry for either the driver of the SUV or the Harley rider, which some may think is a radical statement but it makes sense. Every motorcycle rider knows, or at least should know that what they are doing is more dangerous than traveling in an automobile or truck. If the Harley rider had been in another automobile instead of on a motorcycle then what happened would have been a routine "rear=ending", which happens thousands of times each day. But motorcyclists are doing what they do by choice, they are taking a high risk by choice, just like a sky-diver or bicycle messenger in NYC, so when they do tangle with an automobile who can they complain?
It is a fact that in the USA driving an automobile is a right not a privilege, everyone knows the drivers have only to pass the simplest tests to get on the road, and it is your choice to mix it up with them on a motorcycle isn't it?
Personally I am fully aware that I am putting myself at more risk riding a motorcycle, it is more dangerous than being in an automobile in the case of an accident, that is common sense. So if I am killed or maimed while doing it I will take responsibility because I know that the oil companies, auto manufacturers, and cell phone companies will never let legislation pass into law to let only sensible and intelligent people use motor vehicles.
IF someone is so naive that they do not know there are careless stupid people using cell phones while driving cars, then I would say they don't belong on the road themselves, let alone on a motorcycle.
