Ace Motorcycle and Scooter

Kruster, Glad to hear that you will finally getting your bike back!! Maybe Ace and other motorcycle shops monitor chatter from these sites ;D Hope the bike runs excellent and the cost is reasonable.

Proteal, thanks for thelink to thread on Half-fast forum. It is good to know that there are options out there for those for us that love vintage bikes, but are mechaniccally challenged!

yeah man , def hoping the cost isn't skyhigh lol.

Then again, anything carb related is always a bit tall. BUT as I'm sure you've heard before, you're paying for the quality of the work !

Well damn, what a crazy afternoon.

I stopped by the shop after work to pick up the bike. I met up with Chad, my mechanic and we started talking about the bike. Right off the bat, he tells me that the bike was mostly manhour work and not a lot of money for parts. In total it cost me $480, I thought it would be closer to $1k!!! Here is the breakdown.

Parts/Fluids:
1. New Spark Plugs (Higher temp ones, aparently the ones I used before, NGK B8ES, get too hot and foul)
2. Fork Oil
3. Carb cleaner
4. Oil Change
5. Brake fluid and cleaner

Work:
1. Adjusted points and set timing
2. Rebuilt carbs, tune and synchro (kept CB450 carbs on there, easier to tune) *
3. rebuilt forks to fix fork oil leak **
4. Oil Change
5. Brake work ***

Footnotes (my thoughts on them in parentheses):
*Choke plate - Right side is home made and needs to be replaced with OEM. (Me: I made it myself out of sheet metal, but apparently without the little spring loaded flap, the one side gets flooded).
**Leaky fork seals - a cheap replacement brand was used before the Honda ones you gave me are MUCH better
***Front brake - IS TERRIBLE. We tried to adjust it and bleed it, its still squishy probably master cylinder needs replacing (Me: WTF! I replaced the original crappy one that worked 1/2 what it should with a new CB400 one that kicks ass! I was actually hurt by this :'( )

The ride home sucked balls, Chicago got hit with a monsoon and for 90% of the trip I was getting pelted with rain. On Lakeshore Drive, the lanes filled with water fast. Anytime someone passed me, it felt like a wave from the pacific was crashing down on me and blinded me for about a few seconds. I definitely got a lot of WTF faces from cagers! It was miserable, but it felt really badass!

well 480 is def better than anything close to a 1k shop bill, and as long as the bike rides BETTER now then good times, right ?!

and yeah, that rain kinda came outta nowhere as I was about to step out for a cig at work I looked out and it was comin down hard late afternoon/early evening. Pretty thankful I took the car instead of the bike today that's for sure.

Glad to hear you got your bike back finally.
