Ace125 v2.0 (First re-build)

Hey there!

I'm a newbie to the motorcycle scene, though have been immersed for a number of years. Before finding this wonderful forum, I'd made some un-educated decisions and ended up purchasing a brand new Skyteam ACE125 from a retailer here in Melbourne, Australia.. All other things aside, I figure this is a very simple starting point for me to figure out how things work, to pull everything apart, put it back together and to also upgrade what I can to get the most out of what I have!

So far, I've started with the following..

-New Tires
-Pods and Re-jetted stock carb
-Drilled 18mm baffle in stock pipe
-Clubman Bars/New grips
-Removed excess baggage
-EGR blanking plate
-Replaced tail-light
-Replaced Indicators
-4 cell Anti-gravity Battery
-Rear suspension
-Rear Sprocket/44t
-Removed idiot lights
-Bar end mirror
-other stuff too..

I've got a pretty clear plan as to what I want to do, along with a ton of reading on this forum to make sure I'm at least on the right track!

As I only just tonight decided I was going to keep a photo diary of what I'm doing, I don't have much in the way of 'before' photos.. so I'll start with a stock bike shot.

Thanks, and I hope to meet up with some fellow MCR/Australian Cafe people sometime!

Few bits and pieces that have been ordered..

7" headlight (and brackets, but you get the idea)

Excited to get it together!

Great to see another ACE on the roads, have you taken the CAT out of the exhaust yet ? you can cut and shut the header to get it out or replace the header all together, there is a stainless header on ebay for about 200 for the ACE, its made by a guy here in Melbourne.
taking the CAT out is one of the best power mods you can do to the ACE

Haven't chopped the CAT out just yet.. though not far off!

Want to do a wrapped header into a painted exhaust.. just wondering whether the length is going to make a huge difference? Worst case, I'll just get the header from ebay! Thanks for the heads up!

A bit of an update for today..

Dropped my wheels off at http://www.lightfootwheels.com to be properly trued and straightened.. Phil is one hell of a story-teller! I had over an hour of history lessons to take in, gawk over his BSA Goldstar, Norton Commando 750 and the black sheep of his herd, the Honda GB500TT.

Had a quick stop in at MMC, where I picked up my new headlight.. 7" May be slightly too big for this bike, but I'm not going to toss the idea just yet.

Hopefully clip-ons this week aswell, so lots to look forward to!

The Tarozzi's are offically the most expensive after market part of this build! Haha

Only the most expensive so far!

Once you start spending it gets difficult to stop.

Slow going at the moment, but none the less, going!

Wheels should be done for Wednesday and then onto exhaust! Does anyone have any suggestions for header pipe supplier? I know an eBay one had been mentioned, but can't seem to find it!

Picked up my (now straight) wheels from Phil this afternoon and had a chance to get them back on the bike..

Really enjoying how the front end has come out! Starting to feel like a real cafe build! 8)

Also purchased some of these badboys.. Should have them tomorrow! (local vendor)

Andddd I spent a little time figuring out how I'm going to relocate the battery under the hump, along with new mounts for the tail-light/license plate combo! Should be pretty darn nifty if it works how I have it in my head! That should be one of the next updates!

-Tim

You'll find it easier to fit the battery under the hump if you use one of these:

It also saves some weight and gives an increase in power storage!

Hey Crazy,

Here's what I have right now.. Mega tiny and lightweight!

How much did you splash on the shorai, out of interest??

-Tim

The Shorai charger costs $118, but the battery can be charged with an ordinary charger as long as it doesn't have a de-sulphation mode. Let us know how the AntiGravity works out.

I don't appear to have your wife's phone number so you're safe there!

Crazy - That's awesome that you can use a standard charger.. the A/G comes with a 2 page article on charging specifically with their chargers, OR ELSE! haha

ChrisBNE - I'd probably keep an eye on stroker crazy's thread for any classy modifications and mathematics.. I'm either stealing ideas from him, or going by trial and error!!
