Advice - CB360

HOOLIGAN

Been Around the Block
Hey guys,

I'm new to riding and will be looking at a CB360 this weekend with 6000 original miles and was running in July when he got a new bike. The owner says that it's a 1973 model, but looking online it says that they were only made between 1974-1976 (if it helps, it has a front disk brake). Guess I'm looking for some advice on what you guys think of them, how can I find the proper year and model on the bike and are there any issues I should be aware of. Thanks for you help!

there was a recall with the cam chain tensioner? if it was fixed there will be two dots stamped on the engines serial number

They're cool, I like 'em. I've got 2 myself (well CL 360s actually... cooler exhaust and better looking gas tank if you're into that sort of thing) They're bigger and much better looking IMHO than the previous 350 in most ways which fits my 6'1" frame better than the 350. They do suffer from a lack of popularity in comparison to the 350 though that will have you working a bit harder hunting for parts.

2 of a bunch of easy ways to tell a 360 from a 350

These are the barrels of one of my 360s, note the 356cc embossing.

Also:

Note the two 1" tubes running from the front of the seat to the swing arm pivot. around the pod filters, 350s don't have those, but rather a single open sheet metal piece in the center, running between the filters.

Thanks for the help and info guys. It looks like it is a CB360. I ended up getting it coz for $500, it seemed like a great deal for a running bike with a few spare parts - original chrome fenders, original tank (a bit faded) and side covers.

Here's what it looks like.

I speak for most of us when I recomend the following 4 steps:

Loose the fairing
Loose the Top Box
Loose the luggage carriers and fram
Loose the Highway bar

This will do wonders.

BTW, nice call... got 2 of em myself.

Guess I'm the exception. The mini bagger look is solid in my books.

The fairing, highway bar and top box for sure. I plan on using it just for the city and don't plan on any highway riding for awhile. Still undecided about the luggage carrier, they might be useful. And thanks!

Nice find & I would think w/ a strong tail wind that fairing might add a couple mph to the top speed :)

he may be messed, but boy does that guy have style!

Damn straight. Eight years ago people were asking me why I was wearing a Darth Vader helmet.

for some reason thats pretty typical pj on the 360 :-\ but, its a good idea anyway. better catch anything now before your riding in the spring, right? id say loose all the bags. i carry a backpack and thats all i need. and im in a big city too.

Thats got double wall pipes, must be running really hot for it to turn blue.
Probably be a real good idea to service it and particularly check ignition timing

does carrying a back pack throw off you balance at all? i don't feel anything when I'm riding my bicycle with a backpack, but was wondering if speed has any effect on that.

I ride to work, when I can, with a backpack (laptop, lunch, etc) and I don't notice it a bit. I just make sure it's on tight so it's not moving around any.

I have two, and I hate both of them. With a jacket, helmet, and the larger bag (pretty standard back pack size) it gets to be a hell of a strain to turn my head to look behind me... I probably loose a third of my rearward vision, and with all the straps it's got they're always whipping me. The smaller of the two rides up and I have to constantly strain my neck or be looking down all the time, that one is a FOX (bought it thinking it'd be motorcyclist friendly) and I thought it would be better than the bigger one which is more for skate boarding (that one was my "trunk" all the time I lived in Seattle)

As far as weight... no, you won't notice it, you'll notice all the stuff that's currently attached to the bike a hell of a lot more. But only if you ever take it off.

Backpack is a good way to go, but get a good one and don't ask me what to get... I need recommendations.

i carry a northface bag. big enough to fit alot of crap in it. the only time i ever had a problem is when i was cruising down the interstate to my parents house for the weekend, about a 2 hour ride, i was switching lanes and i turned more than i should have instead of turning my head. the bag created a broad face since it was stuffed with crap and pushed me a little too hard and i wobbled a bit. i think i scared the other drivers around me more than myself. granted, it was a rookie mistake and i was doin 65. i donno though. you can sell all that fairing crap and those bags on egay for a good chunk of change, and get some quality go fast fun parts for your scoot.

Get a bungee net and put a bag on the seat behind you, secured to the bike. Biggest problem with wearing a backpack is the heat.
