Hi All, I am looking for a different speedo for the 50, and was wondering how I would go about fitting one. I'm not sure about the 125s, but the 50 is a cable driven speedo, how do I go about driving an aftermarket electric one? Are spacers avaible to replace the cable drive on the front hub?
the 50 and 125 use the same speedo setup, you can take the cable off and fit an electronic speedo (like the acewell ones( , just leave the speedo drive on the wheel if you cant make or get some one to fabricate one for you.
I have a Koso speed from OORacing (http://www.ooracing.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=4195) with the matching tacho (http://www.ooracing.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=3953). The speedo is triggered by a bolt (or bolts) with a magnetic head replacing the brake disc bolt(s).
I don't know of a spacer to replace the cable drive, but it's not too hard to make one.
As stated some of the aftermarket stuff (like my Aceweell) you can replace the original speedo (its a standard Honda unit at the wheel with a sensor & cable .
Alternatively most aftermarket speedos come with magnets that fit on the wheel. (hall effect)
Either way you usually have to program them with the wheel diamter. Plus point of this is that you can calibrate them accurately against a GPS
Since it's winter in Belgium I started to tinker a little bit on my ace. Temperature is around freezing point but worst of all: a lot of rain. One of the things I did during this bad weather was changing the speedo. I allready fitted a tachometer a while back and wanted to install a speedo that matched the tacho. I bought one of those cheap cable driven speedometers. It turned out to be a lot more work than expected. Making the new bracket took me a lot of work but finally got it kind of right. Then I had an electrical problem: My front left indicator refused to work, the next day nothing worked. It turned out to be a blown fuse caused by a wire that came loose. When I finally got to test the speedo reads a completely wrong speed. It says i'm doing 100kph when I'm only doing about 70kph.
So I take another look at the speedo and notice that it is marked: 60kph=1400rmp
Is this a speedo with the wrong ratio? Can I place an adapter for it or is the thing useless. What is the right ratio for the ace? Or do you recommend an electrical?
I have to admit it felt nice doing 140kph on my ace ;D
