Making some improvements on my seat tonight. Last night the Dallas crew got together for drinks and Jazz downtown. That was probably my longest span of riding since building the new seat (with its tiny pad). So I set out to make a little seat pan that I can beef up with some foam and wrap in tasty leather. Would orange stitch be lame?
Anyway. Here's what got done tonight.
I threw the seat in a bag (just in casers), and then masked it all off.
Then came the aluminum tape.
Glass laid. Now we wait.
Hopefully it will be good to handle tomorrow night and I can break it free without destroying my seat!

Thanks man! I've been pretty happy with my riding position in the past, so rear-sets weren't really a huge consideration.. I'd thought about it just for the aesthetics, but was worried I wouldn't like them (for $300+).. But now that I've had a chance to lay down some more miles with a thinner seat and clip ons, it's starting to become more necessary.
I really like the look of the Loaded Gun Uni's at DCC, so I may go for those. A little more fab-work, but would save a lot more money over the ones made for the old Airheads.
K. Got the seat pan pulled and trimmed. Turned out pretty good.

Thanks to Jachana for coming over and assisting and to my wife kzpokey for finally joining me in the garage. Maybe she'll take notice of her sad 360 sitting in the corner and decide to do something about it.

Woah there, I don't check DTT for a few months while in winter hibernation and I see that you have been doing some good work. Paint is much better in my humble opinion and I am very happy to see a BMW on BOTM.
That seat shaped up - although the lines look a bit familiar - good choice. Although, make sure that foam is dense enough. I wish mine was a little more firm as I swear I can feel the mounting hardware on longer rides.

It's some sort of glue. I'll get a pic shortly. Paid $90 foam included.

I tried to get a pic of it.. but my industrial velcro job was stronger than my will for the morning (on my way out the door to work).. 66Replica and I got our seats done at the same time by the same guy, so maybe if he hasn't velcro'd his down yet, you could ask about his on his RD400 build thread. (His seat looks sick btw)

Yeah. You know Perry Bushong runs a rubber hose from the breather vent back to the swingarm.. dumps the nasty next to the tire.. I've considered going that route, but it's just a little dirty.. Although, it's not like it's pouring out.. you'd be lucky to get a drop per mile if you're moving faster than a crawl I'd think.. Other ideas I've seen include using a catch-can. I might try the tube and just see how messy it is.

Well, I will post up here maybe this weekend to see what my catch can collected after a season of fairly rough riding. I do know that it must be working fairly well as the filter coming back out isn't oily at all.
I will have to fix the booger welds though. I kinda rushed it.
Sparkymoto's looks pretty damn good if you haven't checked out his block off plate yet. But he is a giant jerk because of that beautiful shock setup.
