On another forum a rider posted a picture of his brother holding up the remains of a bird that smacked him on his helmet's visor at 55mph..

...And now i stop looking for a 1/2 helmet.... and start looking for a full face...

Thanks.

remember what happened to that bird when randy johnson hit it with a baseball at 100? imagine that is your chin when your doing the ton!

Ha, ya when originally reading the story, the bird getting obliterated by that pitch was the first thing to come to mind.

MAN! i forgot about that! ahh memories.

Damn. Hardest thing that ever hit me was a bumble bee at 80 mph. Right into my chest. I was wearing a t shirt and a windbreaker. I was yelling and cussing so hard inside my helmet. I went out and found a legit jacket the next day. Still have it and wear it 9 years later.

I've actually been hit in the visor with a butt purposely flicked into my face from a cage full of assholes. I had to admit, the fucker had good timing and aim. :-D Oh, and that was one of TWO times that has happened to me with cigarettes. There was one incident with an empty beer can. Dodged that pretty easily, and another incident with a rock that came off a buddy's rear tire. That would've hit me between the eyes if not for the visor.

I took a bird to face last summer while riding in Colorado. Damn little brown birds all over the place that sit on the road and fly up right when you get to them. I hit three in less than an hour and saw another rider hit one in front of me. One folded my right mirror all the way back...pretty sure he didn't survive. The one to the face happened just as I was entering a small town and had opened my visor. Luckily I was wearing sunglasses under my lid or it would have been a direct shot to the eye.

I know some of you are into the whole cafe "scene" thing...but I just don't get giving up protection to look "vintage". It's no different than the Harley guys dressing up in their pirate outfits. Pudding bowl helmets had their time and that time has long since past. Buy an old one to stick on the shelf? Sure. To actually wear? No thanks.

I have all the reminder I need everyday when I sit at my computer. On the shelf above the monitor is my Gary McCoy replica Arai with the face shield scuffed and half ripped off from my last fall. It wasn't a big impact, but I'd have lost a good bit of my cheek to the asphalt.

Wing, that's pretty much how I feel. Everyone can do as they wish regarding wearing a helmet, and which one they wear, but for me its full face all the time. I think once or twice I've hoped on my bike without a helmet just to move it from the front of the house to the garage.. I felt really uncomfortable. I can't imagine riding with less than a full face helmet at highway speeds.

I used to not wear one, I know, shame on me... It was when I had my Sporty (imagine that). Been hit by all manner of road trash and bugs, luckily, never went down. Once the CB gets back together and ready for the road, I'll be going with a full face, or a 3/4 with a fighter mask and some ANSI approved glasses (Eyerides come to mind...)

I get why people would want to go without. I have ridden without one on a few rare occasions. It's so nice to just hop on the bike and go without spending 5 minutes suiting up in the helmet, jacket, gloves, etc. I'm not perfect, I still ride in jeans about half the time instead of my armored pants. However, I've also been in three accidents (one was my fault) without serious injury and almost no road rash (one spot 3/4" dia. in crash #2) because of my gear. Good gear isn't a magic Star Trek force field that will forever keep you from harm, but it's certainly preferable to the alternative for me.

I also wear a neon yellow hi-viz jacket. I want my bike to look cool, but when it comes to myself all I care about is that I make it home. Fashion is for girls. :)

I'm not trying to be preachy, people can do whatever they like. I just don't get why one would wear a helmet, but not one that offers good protection. ;)

Preach away. I've been advocating full faces for years. At the risk of repeating myself. Cool is fleeting. Dead is forever.

Amen, brother. I live in Ohio, one of the many states w/o a helmet law... dumbest thing I ever heard of... I feel the same way about helmets and seatbelts; uncomfortable w/o them. Tell me, why is it that there are seatbelt laws almost everywhere but not helmst laws? What's the difference? Cory ???

My bro clipped an Egret a couple of years ago...

This was on our previously mentioned "closed" backroad... at about a "buck thirty". He was tucked in. I don't have a shot of the helmet, but it broke the right side pivot completely off and left deep scratches across the top.
Low flying objects are a bitch!

I always ride with a fullface helmet and gear. Too many things over the years have proven to me that it's worth it.
Hoof, love the Cool vs Dead quote. I hope you don't mind if I use it ;)

I feel that no matter what I wear, I do not look cool! But I don't really care to be honest, I always wear a full face and always will.
