Antique, Classic, and Collectable License Plates (w/images)

The arsenic has oddly shaped feet...
I was doing a little reading around on PA motorcycle license plates. Was curious to what everyone thought's are on the 3 available plates. Assuming my bike is modified I would have to apply for the Collectible Plate. Is anyone using this plate?

PennDOT offers three types of special plates for older vehicles:
  • Antique plates are for vehicles more than 25 years old that are in a condition similar to the original specifications, either through maintenance or restoration. Replicas are not permitted.
  • Classic plates are for vehicles at least 15 years old that are in a condition similar to the original specifications, either through maintenance or restoration. Replicas are not permitted.
  • Collectible plates are for reconstructed vehicles that have undergone significant alterations to the original specifications, but have still been maintained in a collectible condition.
To qualify for any of these plates, the vehicle must be primarily used for antique exhibitions, parades, and related activities. The vehicle may be driven one day a week for routine transportation use.Antique:

Does PA not allow you to use original plates from time of the motorcycle? Utah does as long as the plates where still being issued in the year the bike was manufactured. I picked mine up from a collector online for less than $5.00 and I'm the first to mount it.

If I had to pick one of those three, I'd say purple!

pa is pretty strict about things. i would image you could only use the older plates if you had the plate and bike registered together from day one....35 or whatever years ago.

I have a classic plate on my Cadillac and when I was driving it I drove the wheels off it . Basically if it wasn't raining I was driving it . It would be pretty hard to trace the milage due to the fact that you never have to register the car after the first time .

I had the purple antique plate on my cb350. Once issued, the plate stays with the bike. If you sell the bike, the plate transfers with the title even if its a non family member.

I really love the "RARE" plates from PA. Just black with RARE CAR on top.

Here in FL we have a baby blue antique plate, it's a little bit updated from the old style because it's transferred on rather than painted and it doesn't have the white outline, so nothing too cool. I wish we could get with the prgram on standard plates like NY finally did with the black and yellow.

never solved the electrical problem....

West Coast is pretty good. Love the weather, found a nice area to live. Just waiting to get my life heading in the 'forward' direction again

i'm rocking the purple plate on my 350.

no more inspection or registration! pays for itself very quickly. you're crazy if you're eligible and don't get one.

From what it sounds like your bike needs to be in it's stock setup to get one. What if I got one but never told them it was for a Modified Cafe. Do you think anyone would care?

You could easily get away with that.

All you have to do is submit 4 photos (one front, back, and each side) of the vehicle and it is supposed to be 'stock' to get the plate. Although this being Penndot I am guessing you could even just send photos of your cafe and they wouldn't know/care.

I hear a lot of people go out and take photos of someone elses stock vehicle to get the plate to put on their heavily modified version.
