anyone ever make their own clip-ons?

i'd like raw steel clip-ons instead of some cheap metal with a chrome coating - saving some money is a plus too

some of these designs dont look complicated, (pic 1 and 5) but what is the proper name for the"collar" thing and where can I find them?

thanks in advance

crazypj made his own. they came out pretty sweet. you need to know your fork tube diameter and i recomend styles more like pictures 1 2 and 3 as the actual bars sit further forward and reduce the risk of hitting your tank. i had a set identicle to picture 5 but they hit my tank. and i had to go back and use filler like 3 times before i learned my lesson.

Lots of folks have. For a nice set at a really reasonable price PM MarcW. His guy makes nice ones. Ive bought 3 sets from him.

It's actually MUCH cheaper to buy some, unless you already have all the machinery and time to use it

I was hoping someone would know where to buy a 36mm collar so I could just weld it onto a 7/8ths tube

(I don't have access to machine the parts)

I found some "double clamp collars" online but local would be better. something like these might work - just gotta find the right size / safety quality

Are they bicycle seat post clamps?
I doubt you'll find 36mm though (Kawasaki forks?)
The Chinese ones on eBay work OK
these say they are 7075, strongest alloy you can get

yeah kawasaki kz650. I've seen most of the clip-ons sold on ebay but just thought most were cheap knockoffs; did not know about the "7075"

thanks for the info. think I might go with those
